Looking for a Golf V Gti

Hi Guys,

My car was torched in front of my house on the 31st of December.

Whist i wait for the insurance to pay out im looking at upgrading from a Polo Gti to the Golf Gti.

What do you guys think of the below 2007 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI V MY08 Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au

It is fully optioned with all the trimmings, do you think this is a reasonable price or do you think i can bargain him down? I will be going to look at the car sometime next week.

30k is top dollar I think. It wont be too long before mk6s start creeping into that price point.
Beggers cant be choosers when it comes to 3 door manual GTIs though. There just arent that many around. Im sure most people that post ads on carsales are negotiable.

Im hoping he is a little negotiable, even though it is fully loaded with all optional extras.

I used to own a similar car in candy white so yes I have a soft spot for them.

What i mean is that if you really really really really want a 3 door manual then you cant get too picky on price because there arent many to choose from. 3 doors are rare enough and most of them are DSG.

I do remember 6 months ago there was one that went for low 20s though although that was an MY07 instead of 08.

Options dont really add much to the resale value of a car. They just make the car desirable or not to a particular buyer. It doesnt have particularly low kms.

In my opinion I think the car is at least 10% overpriced. At the end of the day it will always come down to the seller and if they are in a hurry to get rid of the car or not. Its always a tradeoff between that and how much you want that spec.

I tend to agree the original link posted is slightly over priced... For that money I would want an 08 model 4dr, the 2drs are less to buy new and are less desirable on the second hand market as they don't pose any real advantages over the 4dr except a few kgs lighter.

im going to go look at it tomorrow to see what it is like in the flesh. I do agree the extra 2 doors would be nice, lets see how negotiable he is on price.

As stated 10% overpriced so it will be a take it or leave it offer if i like the car.

3 doors were made in Germany, 5 doors in South Africa - may influence your purchasing decision.

Plus the 3 doors look so much better

make sure you get a pre purchase inspection carried out - never know, kinda wierd he only got the rear bar c/coaded... been rear ended?

When I was looking at getting a MkV I looked at the one online and was concerned for that reason.

Funny story about that. Didn't end up going to look at it. Mid to late december sounds about right for the timeline.

I ended up test driving a Mk 5 at a dealer. Then a new Mk 6 GTI then ended up putting a deposit on a new Golf R.

So much for a 30k car purchase...

Funny how the dealer can suck you in like that, although the new Golf R is a very nice car, good luck with it
