I had a set of Kumho KU36, but I got a puncture that couldn't be repaired. So I got some Bridgestone Adrenalins RE001 fitted on the front wheels on Saturday... I've done about 200kms now and I have to be honest, in terms of performance, the RE001 is not that good. The side wall is soft and you can definitely feel that through the corners. RE001 grip is not too bad, but nothing to rave about.
Compared to the KU36, the RE001 is less grippy, quieter, softer. RE001 seems more like a everyday tyre rather than a performance tyre. Which is not too bad for me as I mostly do a lot of commuting in a straight line. But for the next set of tyres I'm definitely going back to the KU36s.
Just a FYI or everyone that fthe Adrenaline 001 has been replaced by the Adrenalin 002. Have just fitted a set onto my MkV GTI (demo set from Bridgestone).
Must say my initial impression is very positive. Bit more bite than the old (OE) contis, the wear on them wasnt great so hopefully a few more kms from these tyres. New 002s are a bit quieter but that'd be expected from new vs worn.

Will be fitting Falken FK453 in the next week to the fronts (225/45 R17). They will be replacing the OE Conti Compact Sport II. Also considered the Brigestones RE050a and Conti Compact Sport III. Will post my impressions once they are fitted. Will be interesting to see how they go with all the wet weather in BNE recently. Looking forward to new shoes for the GTI!
I had Falken's on my previous car, they were great in the dry but I found them very slippery in the wet.
I have just changed over to Toyo Proxes T1 Sports and I am enjoying them a lot, much more grippy in the wet then my previous tyres (toyo teo's). The only complaint about them is they are a bit more noisy then the teo's..
I hope the FK453's keep me on the road in differing conditions. I have high hopes after reading the reviews on the interwebs. But as they say "everything with a grain of salt".

Since this thread got revived.
Now done ~45,000 with the 002s. Have only just rotated them for the first time. Mostly highway (freeway or 80kph+ zones) mileage (probably 40,000 of the 45k).
Fronts were down to 4mm, rears to 8mm. Still quiet.
The old Contis are still in storage but these ones look like with freeway running they'll have a bit more yet.

Looking for some advice.. Currently have PS3's needing replacement, 235/45/17, these were on the car when I got it, I thought 235 was better than 225 because it had more width therefore more grip.. Speaking to a tyre guy he made me realise that my sidewall was bigger too and said a 225 would be better having less sidewall flex. fiy, I understand the sidewall:width ratio I just hadn't thought of it in regards to my tyres.. Would any of you say 225/45 would be better than the 235 in regards to handling/turn in and would it have much of a negative effect on straight line grip?
Also considering Potenza S001's over the PS3's. I'm not sure I can be bothered importing PSS's from tirerack and running around trying to get them fitted etc. Any opinions?
my car has PS3 225/45r17. I wouldn't replace them with the same thing...grass is always greener, may as well give something else a go and step up the budget at the same time. I've been told good things about the Dunlop SP sport Maxx TT or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 and they both rate highly for Motor.
I also cannot be bothered importing tyres to save a few dollars. I'd be happier to support someone local and hope they'd support me in the event I had a faulty tyre or an incident and had to get a replacement.
(i'm also a brand ****, won't be seen without a big brand name on my sidewalls)
I'd stick with 235/45r17 purely because it takes the inaccuracy out of the speedometer / odometer. It's one of my pet hates of VAG cars.
Unless you are really getting up it, I doubt you'd notice the 5mm difference in sidewall height. If you think you can, why not just go for a tyre with a stiffer sidewall or run higher pressures?

You are right, the RE001 isn't anywhere near as sporty as the KU36 (but it's a lot quieter isn't it?).
They take a while to break-in so i think you'll find they improve over the next 500km. Also, they reward a smooth driving style.
For the record I just went from RE001's to KU36, and it feels like a backwards step around corners, very soft sidewall. Tramlines at 100kph plus too I notice, the RE's didn't do that. Grip and wet handling is great ( but they are new so you'd expect that ), but not what I was used to with the Bridgstones cornering wise. Just my personal opinion, and yes I have played around with pressures.

Might the tramlining be slightly wheel alignment related?
I only ever drove on them in a Subaru Liberty
