i currenty have Fulda Exelero 205/55R16 (German made) on my bora. I'm very happy with the tyre, although they did cost me $240 each from Bob Jane. Now that I'm looking at going 18" rims, found Advance Tyres in Richmond selling Fulda 225/40R18 for $189 a corner! On special apparently

I have had 4 types of tyres (225/45/17) on my Mk5 GTI, I will list them below and rate them out of ten for noise and handling and then give the quoted price of replacement and the k's travelled:
1. The original Conti Sport Contact 2 - 7, 6, $520ea, 29,000k's
2. Pirelli P Zero Rosso - 7, 7, $420ea, 22,000k's
3. Falken RT615 (2 sets) - 7, 8, $350ea, 17,000k's and 16500k's (extra track day on 2nd set)
4. Yokahama Advan AD08 - 8, 9 $350ea, only 2000k's old, no alarm bells ringing for wear.
The yoki's seem pretty good, if they last they are definitely the pick of the bunch.
The Falkens did do a couple of track days and I drive pretty hard generally.

I bought the Bridgestone Adrenalin 225/45 17 for my GT for $225 a tyre.
I think they were good value but in wet and dry grip they aren't anywhere near as good as the P Zero rosso or Conti CSC 2 I've had previously.
I will be moving them to the rear and putting something else on when the CSC 2s I have at the rear are dead.

Should i run 55 profile rubber? or should i drop to 50s?

After reading some of the kilometres that GTI tires have travelled (i.e. less than 30,000kms), I am beginning to think I may be "babying" my GTI too much...
I own a 2007 GTI (MY0
with the original Continentals ... it has now done 34,000kms and the tires are still going strong. I expect to get upward of 50-55,000kms to this set of tires.

I replaced the continental contact2 tyres at just over 30,000km, they had a little bit of life left (say another 5k) but my lease included them. I thought they were a pretty good tire in terms of compromise between wear and performance.
I still have a pair brand new with stickers that I got under my lease and didnt need to put on. They are surplus now as I sold my GTI when I ordered my R36 so if anyone needs a pair in Melbourne let me know.
