Hi Everyone,
Is there anyone using 18inch wheels with 235/40/18 on MK V Jetta please?
I put them on previously, when have peoples in the back seat, every time drive over the speed bump, it sounds like the tyres scratching the inside.
I did not low my car or options for any sports suspension, the wheels are genuine VW Omanyt 18 x 8, with 44 offset
When I put the 225/40/18, the issues resolved, the 235/40/18 is a lots cheaper than 225/40/18 and more brands to choose from and ride is more comfortable too.
Anyone have any suggestions please?MY08 Mark V 1K Jetta 110kw 2.0L FSI 6 Speed Tiptronic, Comfortline, 18" VW R32 Omanyt Wheels, Reflex Silver

235/40r18 is 10mm wider & 14mm bigger in diameter for similar make/model tyres, so there's a possibility it will rub somewhere if you have a back seat full of Fatty McFatties.
235/40r18 is std on the EOS, so I wouldn't think the rear wheel wells were that different in size between EOS & Jetta.
Have a look up under the guard with a torch & see if you can see a shiny spot where the tyre was rubbing. Maybe you just have to move some guard liner or something.
If you insist on running that size, you need to find a "small case" version. Get your tyre retailer to line up all the different 235/40r18 & you'll see that the height & width vary quite a bit even though they are supposed to be the same size. Choose the smallest or one with severely rounded shoulders.
If you are running them up front, you might wish to check your speedometer with a GPS as the larger diameter will remove any safety buffer from the speedo reading & possibly have the speedo reading slower than your actual speed.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic
I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
