  • MKV golf GTI questions (re: aux input and blutooth installs)

    G'day,

I'm going to test drive some potential golfs this saturday. There are two things though that kind of irritate me about the golfs which I need to know the solution to before I make a purchase:

    Car1 that I'm checking out is a 2007 w/ stock 2007 satnav.
    Car2 that I'm checking out is a 2008 w/ stock headunit.

    1. If I need to install an Audio AUX input socket for either car, how much am I looking to be paying for with satnav or without satnav (official or aftermarket)?
    2. If I need to install blutooth for either car, how much am I looking to be paying for either (official or aftermarket)?

Aux input is a necessity for me unfortunately. Seriously, this should be a standard feature. what about that 510 headunit thingy, does that come with an aux in?

    Cheers in advance!

    Nik.

    Aux input for what?

There are Bluetooth kits for ~100-150 on ebay, and Ipod kits for about the same. they plug into the back of the stock headunits (unless you have a CD changer in the center console). They are both cheap and nasty, but they work

Funnily enough, I have both an Aux input and a VW Bluetooth module sitting in my garage that came from my old Mk5 and dad's Tiguan respectively.

The Aux input is easy to get, any store like Northfield Car Sound will be able to install it. Some decent aftermarket garages can obtain and install the BT (such as HP here), and it's normally a lot cheaper than VW.

And personally, I'd go 2008+. Any car MY08 and after has an MP3 compatible CD player and the full height MFD which trust me, makes a massive difference.

Cool, if they're plug and play, would you be willing to part with them?

Ill seriously consider the 08 then

The 2007 car may still be MY08 (Model year 08 ) just check if it has the MP3 CD player and full height MFD (the display between the tacho and speedometer).

you can still have a full height MFD if you have sat NAV.

For the OP, Full Height Multi Function Device is the big ass pannel thing between speedo/tacho. Get the Full height if you can, its a few grand to change it over later if you want to attempt it. Also, I'd snap up the MDI/Bluetooth from Alex if hes selling it...

Cheers for the info I will definitely buy them off him if he's willing to part with them.

Are there any things I should look out for which are "usual issues" with the late model mkv golfs? Like rubber seals, odd dsg noise etc?

Yeah I think they're plug and play, but don't quote me on that. And yeah, both parts are for sale atm

Well, the '08 is being test driven tomorrow morning at about 9am. I'll give it a whirl then and figure out what options it does (or doesn't) have and get back to you if that's the car I end up getting. I'll have to sort out leasing on monday so there's no guarantees I have it (or another car) until then.

drove two my08 gti's today (one 2008 in the morning, and a 2007 around midday).

The 08 one was crap, stank like smoke, had wear on the shifter (even though apparantly the dsg was never used...), the 07 one was bliss. Put a deposit on the 07 one just this afternoon after I negotiated a 3yr new car warranty and all on road costs and had a nice long test drive around windy roads.

Very happy chappy, the lease should be set up by the end of tuesday and hopefully ill have a new car that evening! RAD!

                            Car has the following:
                            3 doors
                            DSG
                            Leather seats
                            Sat Nav
                            6 stacker
                            Aux in and ipod in
                            xenons
                            sunroof
                            full size mfd (my08 model)

I think it *might* have an aftermarket exhaust, as it pops on gear changes with that nice gurgley noise.

Car doesn't have bluetooth, so i may buy your module maca if you are willing to sell and we can agree on a price, but I can't really afford to buy it until next payday (and of course, once the lease goes through) due to silly season expenses.

Jeez that 07 model sounds perfect with that features list. I have someone slightly interested ATM but I'd be happy to sell it to you should that not go ahead.
