Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    George hello again.

You stated in your intro, sorry introduction (Dr Spine) hehe.
You "had to make a decision between the TFSI and TDI."

Why did you prefer to purchase the TFSI over the TDI.
    Neil.

I never cease to be amazed at the delivery times that keep popping up on this forum. I've never been to any VW factory but I'm in the automotive parts business (commercial vehicles not passenger) and have been fortunate enough to visit a number of manufacturing plants in Germany including the Merc factory at Sindelfingen (Stuttgart) and the Kolbenschmidt (piston manufacturer) factory in Neckarsulm.

The sheer scale of production is mindblowing, Sindelfingen at that time was producing a new benz every 35 seconds 24/7, at the KS factory one single production line was producing 7,000 pistons for VW EVERY day, the logistics and planning are so finely tuned and everything runs like clockwork.

That begs the question.....where on earth do all these vehicles go and as these factories are so perfectly organised how come they can't deliver at the promised time?

      Cheers

On another note, I've got to say I enjoyed your first post and appreciate your mastery of the language. An increasingly lost art these days.

I sense that you are not a member of the current generation whom it seems have learnt to spell using their (not there) mobile phones/text messages.

I love intelligence and don't mind complimenting it when I see it.

I hope you enjoy the forum as much as we all do.
        Hi Dr Spine,

I'm embarrassed by your compliments but I’ll accept them! LOL

You are correct I’m from the older generation; I’m coming up to my 55th birthday. I was taught to spell correctly and it is something I am fairly fussy about but times change and there is less emphasis on spelling these days and I recognise that we can’t turn back the tide.

I agree about the enjoyment of the drive, sadly it is increasingly difficult to do so in this greatly regulated era with our increasingly congested roads. I have taken the opportunity to take the Jetta out of the city a number of times and each time I return home with a great sense of satisfaction. It is not about racing or driving irresponsibly it’s more that that the car has been built to accelerate, handle and brake well in any circumstances enabling one to feel completely at one with the road. It’s difficult to put into words but I think that most on this forum would understand what I mean.

I look forward to ongoing correspondence.

        Cheers

        George

          Neil.

          Hi Neil,

That's a really good question and I agonised over it long and hard. Without wanting to do too much of an in depth analysis I found the TFSI to be a nicer drive. I drove the TDI Jetta a couple of times and have since spent a couple of days driving a TDI Golf (the dealer's loan car when the service department had to have my car for a couple of days to rectify the complete cockup they had made when fitting the gold plated towbar) and to be honest I found both TDIs to be a little coarse and noisy under acceleration.

I weighed up the fact that the TFSI would cost more in terms of fuel consumption (objective) against my perception of greater driving pleasure (subjective) and the TFSI won my vote.

It was not a simple decision, I still think the TDI is a great car but I couldn't afford to buy one of each!

          Cheers

          George

How is it that we generally have a top notch class of member on this forum? Humour, wit, manners and style. What a groovy bunch we are!

I've never seen a conversation descend into bad language and cheap nastiness.

I'll second that...(or should that be third?) LOL

I've seen other forums (not VW) where the posts degenerate into slanging matches, swearing and downright abuse. I looked around on this forum for a few weeks before joining and noticed it wasn't like that and that the moderators run a tight ship. I would not have joined up otherwise.

                  Cheers

                      Hi George,

                      Welcome!

We seem to be in a very similar situation in that I also visited this forum many times before I decided to join. I have visited many forums as well and I agree that this has a very healthy discussion about many issues.

I also have a Jetta TFSI which I got in Nov06 - Black Pearl, sunroof, anthracite leather with electric driver's seat, alarm system and Charleston
18" wheels. I had the tint installed after it was delivered.

I guess I'm lucky than most of you in this forum in that when I decided I wanted a Jetta ( I looked at various options like Honda Accord Euro Luxury, Mazda 6 sports hatch, Subaru Liberty) the dealer I went to in Sydney had the car with the specifications and colour I was looking for. So I did not have to wait at all. I sealed the deal on a Saturday afternoon. By Wednesday afternoon I was driving out of the dealer's premises.

But for those waiting, it will be worth it. This car is just so pleasurable to drive.

A nice choice indeed, I know you will be on tenterhooks waiting for it. I haven't driven a R32 yet but will con a drive of one at some stage from my friendly dealer. R32 has the sweetest exhaust note doesn't it? Last couple of times I've driven past Barloworld at Five Dock there was a nice blue R32 sitting on the forecourt, my better half keeps wondering why I start drooling as we drive past!

I wonder how does the R32 go on fuel consumption?

Having a preference for a car with a boot, my ideal car would be a Jetta with 4WD and the 188KW TFSI engine in the S3! Not that I'm greedy or anything!

                          Cheers

                            Hi bacong

Sounds like you won the lottery, I haven't come across anybody who has bought a VW with immediate delivery!

Interesting, those 3 cars are the exact same cars I looked at before I discovered the Jetta. I was impressed by all of them but once having driven the Jetta I lost all interest in the others immediately!
