Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

ohhhh my god!I can't beleive this thread is still going...

    as per my previous post.

MIRROR DIP is ONLY available if you have REVERSE PARKING SENSOR.
    Comfirmed by VW Camberwell.

I have reverse parking sensor - mirror dips
My gf has no parking sensor - no mirror dip

Once in "L"" and reverse, you need to adjust the mirror down towards the ground to "set" the desired position. Apparently you need the rear parking sensors (as an option or std)?

Just to confirm I've been in touch with the dealer and they've told me that the left mirror dipping function can be programmed on all MY08 GTIs regardless of whether they have factory fitted rear sensors. Whether that's actually true is anyone's guess...

In MY08s with facory fit parking sensors, you can adjust the setting to on or off in the MFD. Pre 08s with sensors had the function too, but seeing as they didn't have the Highhline MFD, they couldn't adjust it themselves.

The limiting factor is having factory PDC/sensors. If you don't have them, your mirror won't dip. If you do, you see an extra menu on the Highline MFD. All Jettas have the mirror-tilt function, regardless of year. It's even written there in the brochure specs I don't know of anyone without rear PDC having mirror-tilt.

In some markets overseas, there is the option of electric folding mirrors, where the mirror also has an LED on the underside that shines on the floor- like puddle lights.

          Redgti20t, your dealer's feeding you horse****....LOL~....

Sorry to get an old thread going. but,

My dealer told me about this option on my GT Sport that i picked up last week.
Yet to see if it works though.
I also noticed whilst playing with the latest Beta of VAG COM, that the mirror dip option is there but in brackets it says "only with memory seats"

doesnt work on my gt sport unfortunately. been too lazy to hook up a vag com though i suspect it might work after enabling that option.

hmm, is this a standard feature on all GTI's. I have a 2006 model and have never seen it. Also isnt the mirror dial lay out L (Mirror Heater) R

So if its in the middle does it not turn on the mirror heaters, therefore it should be set to one side so these are not always on?

At the bottom of the dial there is L - 0 - R, and the heater feature is 180 degrees around from the 0 position (in the Jetta).

I usually leave it in "0" position, and on the odd occasion I'm in reverse and need to see my rear wheel I flick it to "L" rather than have it move around every time I reverse out of the garage. Probably nothing, but why flog all of those little motors when you don't have to...

and i just tried and it didnt dip But its wierd, becuase the manual also says there should be folding mirrors, i dont have this?? if its in the manual, shouldnt the car technically have it, becuase i dont think its an option

*If* your model is fitted with the feature, I think the set up process is to shift the mirror dial to "L", drop the gear into reverse, and adjust the mirror to the desired position. When you shift back into forward motion, and reach 15km/h, the mirror will return to its original position. The alternative is to dial it back to "0" and it will return.

These instructions are for the MY08 Jetta. I know because I stay up late at night reading the manual

Walker, great choice in colour for your jetta. I also read manuals (or the forums) when I go to bed. My Jetta works exactly like yours but my mates GTi (newer than mine) does not seem to have this feature.

if theres a small number in a bracket above a feature when referred to in the manual it means its optional equipment.
