Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Mirror dip in reverse stopped dipping?

This morning (and rest of today) the left mirror no longer dips ... but it had been every day since getting the car last Wed. Could I have accidentally disabled it somehow?

Have you touched the mirror adjustment knob? I think it needs to be in the centre location for the function to work...

I've read the manual but have not been able to get it to work on my 07 Spec GTI. Can anyone advise how to set it up or even if it is available on my car ?

Well I had it centred, no more dipping. Oh well, something to mention at the 1000km service/check.

Subie25L - it needs to be programmed by the dealer. Mine was setup, but stopped. Bizzare.

That probably makes sense, and it was still in "R" when I changed it back to centre. Shall go try it later. It's probably in the manual, I'm still wading through it.

I didn't even know the mirror dipped until I read this thread, went downstairs put the mirror swithch to L, car in reverse and the mirror dipped - might have to make time for a look at the manual.

Anyone know if the auto dip feature is standard on R32? The manual indicates it is an optional feature and I never get it working on my 07 R32.

Needs to be set by the dealer I believe.

                      Really ?
                      that's a nuff nuff idea. .imo. .
That feature sold me the car... heh heh.. you mean i gota specify it now ..
I should've put in the new car contract - sale is void if car hasn't got this feature enabled from the start.

Well even with the mirror selected to "L" no dice with the dipping anymore. Anyway, shall mention at the 1000km checkup.

                            Try this...

When I first picked up the Jetta (TFSI) and put it in reverse, it didn't work. I had a bit of a play - can't remember the exact sequence I tried, but think it was this...

                            1) put the mirror selector to "L"
                            2) put the gear stick to Reverse
                            3) adjust the mirror to the desired position (looking down at the curb)

All done! Well it now works for me.

The mirror will stay in this position until the car drives forward >15km/h (or thereabouts). This permits doing forward/reverse adjustments while parking without moving the mirror position with every change of direction. Also, I think it will only move when going into reverse if the "L" mirror is selected.

PS: The dealer wasn't aware that this function existed on the Jetta.
