Wow, hear I am thinking my little thread was buried deap in the archives...

For those of us with older MkVs (and TDI Jettas, haha), can you give your impression (not just first impression but once you're used to it) of the Mk6 steering wheel and dash, in terms of itgrowing on you aethetically (or not) and the usefulness of the white MFD.

Thanks - I think a new steering wheel and cluster might be good on my Jetta (along woth the highline CECM and canbus upgrades).

Now that you have this car - would you recommend the interior upgrade or does it really just feel like the old Jetta?
The Mk6 steering wheels is contoured and gives great tactile feedback. It feels a lot like the Mk5 GTI/R32 wheel and I'd recommend it highly. I've noticed you can't seem to "chirp" the horn as the horn pad feels thicker and doesn't have as much feedback as the old wheel, but it's something you get used to.

The speedo is another thing to get used to. 60km/h on the Mk6 is where 80km/h is on the Mk5... So I absolutely shat myself when I saw the needle up in the 80km/h position while driving down a 60 street. Another thing that takes getting used to but it all happens in time. The white dash gives a warmer interior atmosphere but the car needs more white for it to match well. The larger MFD is great, along with the improved engine temperature display (also shows oil temp.. Another thing to be OCD about) as well as the option for the speed to display in miles per hour. I especially like that on the left side of the steering wheel, the left/right buttons are dedicated to the stereo, regardless of what screen is displaying on the MFD.

Overall I'd recommend the steering wheel and new dash. The RCD510 is good but can be a little laggy. Nevertheless, it's a great little addition. The new Climatronic is a little hard to read and I'd prefer the older controls, but the setting do show on the screen of the RCD510 and it does help alot.

Hmm... Don't let the USA tail lights fool you. They're my "back up" ECU flash has already happened and stance will be sorted soon enough (quiet, Bizi).

Would love some bags but I also love my boot space a little too much... Suspension has been ordered with delivery expected mid January.

          Looks fresh...
Thanks man. I would've liked a Skoda (or an Infinity G37 for that matter), but everything kept bringing me back to the Jetta. The car was brand new when I picked it up and the price was amazing, which also helped my decision. There's no man-pedal available in this model in Australia. Gotta go to the USA to get a manual GLI.

Projectors are from TMTuning and were $689USD in June of 2009.

It seems to be the day of reviving build threads (Silver Dub) but I guess it's DIY Sunday? Anywho, some other Dubbers and I tinkered away today, applying my front and rear skirts and the Wolfsburg Edition Grill. I also had my side skirts and rear lip applied on Friday so I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them up I'm really happy with how the car's looking!

Maca,I somehow missed seing the pictures of your NEW Jetta.

I love the updated look, and Grey is one of the nicest colours.

How does your new one compare to your old one ???

I know its a TSI vs a TDI,but that should make the comparison interesting.

Also, was the Black one South African built,as I know all the newer ones are Mexican built.

                Any diffirences in build quality.

Personally I think I would prefer the TSI over the TDI...

I am waiting for the all new 2011 Jetta, might be my 5th Jetta ???

I sourced the rear and side skirts from my old car (originally OEM+), and the front lip from TMT. I've recycled a few parts which is the best way although I think after yesterday, everything's staying on the car!

I thought you would've been the first person to see it! The grey's much better than the black, you can barely see the dirt at all which is relief...

I really miss my old TDI as it was so comfortable, this car is great but for some reason I just don't feel as "cosy" in it as with my old diesel. The fuel economy isn't that different, I was returning about 700km per tank in the TDI, I'm getting about 550-600km in the TSI. I'm happy with how that's going Oh and the TDI was Mexican built, as is the new TSI. I think it's the smaller TSI/TDI's that are built in SA but don't quote me on that.

I think if they drop the 3.0TDI from the Audi range in a Jetta, it would be the perfect car! I love the look of the new Jetta, especially the GLI. If you get one, it has to be the GLI.

I beleive that all the European and Australian spec A6 Jettas will be GLI models, but with diffirent engine choices.

Jetta A5 models were initially all built in Mexico in 2006 and 2007.

During 2008 and in 2009 production was switched to South Africa for Australian market.

                      In 2010,production returned to Mexico.

Out 2011s will also all be built in Mexico.

                      I had 2 built in Mexico,and 2 built in South Africa,my motherland.
And I found them to all be good.

So you can't really see a difference betweeen the SA and Mexican built? I wouldn't think so, it would still need to be up to a minimum standard.

Here are some out door pictures as promised:

I'll somehow blacken the chrome sensors eventually so they don't stand out, and I'm not really liking this front plate business.

The number plate backing is only temporary until I get some reflectors for the GLI valance. Coilovers are being installed Wendesday morning at 8.30

Damm you boy, you beat me to the mods!

Mate the front grille look awesome! Have you thought about matching the vw logo in the same gloss black?

You have beat me to one mod that i thought i'd be the first to do it.

I'm talking about the colour coding of the chrome strip above the lower vents. In my opinion it gives more focus on the all important centre grille, Good Job! Did take the chrome piece off the top mould to colour code or just take out the whole upper mould piece so they had the colour to match?

So what's your thoughts on the number plate positioning? I'd love to get mine off the centre grille but i dont want to side mount it so it looks like i have a fully sick cooler.

Fingers crossed my prezzie arrives wednesday or thursday.

The Mexican and South African Jettas are identical, the only give away is on the vin, with the South African built ones having a U,standing for Uitenhague, where the plant is,and the Mexican ones having a M for Mexico.
