Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The thickness of the needle viewed from the angle will make you believe that you still doing for example 80km/h when in reality, it would be almost 90km/h.
So, the common sense is telling me that, if I don't seat absolutely 90 deg above the speedo needle, then it must display a greater speed than the car is traveling.

The Mavericks explanation why is there an error in displayed speed is spot on and similar to the official VW explanation. That's another example how is the VW helping you to save money - you don't get caught speeding as often, especially if you're the creeper.

Maverick, I'm quite well aware of the differences between the two. But, getting an accurate speed from a car is a very simple exercise, and in this case it is completely frustrated by some level of bloody mindedness. I do not want VW, or any other maker removing about 10% of the speed that I am legally allowed to do, just because they feel like it. The speed limits in this country are anal enough, without them helping the situation.

And, it makes it doubly laughable, when you test drive something like a BMW X5 4d. Very nicely presented speed head up display, that is totally wrong. My Toyota Hilux had an accurate speedo. It isn't hard.
