Wolfgang has pretty much answered the second part of your question, I would think that that as long as servicing has been carried out by qualified service people and at the correct intervals that you shouldn't have any real dramas when it comes to making a claim. Some dealers will try to charge much higher premiums than others, that's why I recommended Jaz Hokin at SCC in Wollongong (Ph. 02 42542000) and remember to mention you're a VWWatercooled member to get a better rate. The following link will give you details of the VW Used Vehicle warranty - http://www.volkswagen.com.au/etc/med...cy%2012.07.pdf

At the end of the day, the MK V has proven itself to be a reliable platform so warranty or not, it should be relatively low risk provided you get it checked carefully, check its history, service log books, etc.

My previous car was bought from a used car dealer with dealer warranty; they would even do everything they could to avoid providing me with roadside assistance. I had to send records proving my latest approved services before they were willing to help at all.

I can't say for certain but I was quoted between $1,100 - $1,200 for a 3 year extended USED car warranty on a 2005 GTI (with full VW service history) in NSW. Not sure if it's any different from state to state

I believe it differs from dealer to dealer, like everything they put a mark up on it. My friend who recently purchased an Mk6 gti was quoted anywhere from 2k to 1.2k .. I think he ended up getting the best price from Penrith vw (nepean group). It shouldnt matter too much from which dealer you buy it from.
