Thanks. Sounds like they'd be pretty important in terms of getting the wheel located absolutely perfectly on the hub. It's so much easier with Falcons and Commodores -- but much less fun.

    • So, blur, you've had the Ultras on the car for a while now. Is everything working as it should? Cured the vibrations? Do you get any rubbing at all?

      Thanks.

          sorry guys.......been way busy.

Finally solved the problem by getting my hands on the correct, OZ specific hub rings. These are very specific to both the rim and VAG's unique hub: 56.07mm centre bore with a 74mm outer flange for the Ultraleggeras. Once fitted, instant solution! and no rubbing!

and now, i have seen the lite ....lite rims that is. If you have never put significantly lighter rims on your car, then you must do it, NOW!

What a revelation. The reduced unsprung weight has made the car ride better, steer better and reduced road noise (used the factory rubber). Even with stretching the tyres to fit the 1/2" wider rim, turn in is sharper, feed back is better and steering has lightened up. The inherent nose heavyness of the R32 has been reduced (at least subconciously) and has made the car feel like as different beast!

But the biggest thing???? Damn the thing turns heads now. Finally has the visual aggression to go with the noise. Springs go on soon and I've been convinced to go for front and rear anti roll bar replacements as well. Some detailed pic's once she's lowered and detailed.

Oh, and the revised BMC CDA CIA with mandrel bent stainless piping goes back on on Thursday....

Al: thanks for all your help and direction with this...definitely "solved" the problem for me. They really shouldn't let a novice like me loose without any training

Lesson for all: ask an expert first!!!

                • Hey, Blur,

Got my Ultras today -- the right colour this time (long story, thread on golfmkv.com). Car still a month away...

Anyway, just thought I'd ask about the lug bolts you received. The ones I got are a bit cheap-and-nasty looking -- with a recessed top with numbers stamped on it. I think your pix look the same -- or did they send something better.

Did you stick with the bolts or 'upgrade' to something classier? And have you found any lock bolts in Aus?

                  Richard.

Richard, I think Blur32 changed his studs with ones from Milan early in the piece when he was trying to figure out why they wouldn't balance properly (without hubcentric rings).

Did the ones from the earlier shipment when you got black wheels look different? (oh, u've answered my Q from GolfMkV with lock nuts- I think I'll order mine from Tirerack. SideFX (Alex) has locknuts on his Ultraleggeras, so I'll ask him where he got his from).

Hehehe, ok. I just IM'd him actually as I forgot to ask last night. Took the plunge yesterday evening after seeing yours in the boot. Placed an preliminary email order with Tirerack. Waiting for them to get back to me. I asked for locknuts as well- not sure if they're McGuards though.
