I dindt read anything as insult? Maybe it just wasn't directed at me....lol

    Either way, I have a Mk3 VR6, Mk4 32 and MkV GTI in the family...I'd have the Mk4 everytime.
Alternatively, cash saved on Pirelli buys VF RSR kit for a MkV GTI and you have a weapon.....

You have been baiting R32 owners since very early in this thread. You have a GTI and prefer that over the R32. We get that, but you must realise that as enthusiasts, we are also going to respond if a statement is made that we don't agree with.

Why wouldn't you keep the Pirelli longterm? It's a very limited edition car with real factory performance enhancements - not just cosmetic upgrades like the MkVI Adidas GTi.

I think you have mistaken me for Deancorp. I didn't call it an old man's car - he did. And it was Poyta who first stated to get the R32 if you wanted to show off.

I just stated the R32 was nose heavy, drinks alot and not nimble. If you consider that baiting, then I wonder how anyone can post an opinion without someone else getting upset. Good grief!

Would it make you happy (to balance things out a bit) if I said that the stock Pirelli, had turbo lag, understeers w/o an rsb upgrade?

C'mon, at least admit you trash talked the R32 a bit. I much prefer the GTi's (either MkVI or Pirelli) and also the MkIV R32 but I wouldn't call the MkV R32 a car just for posing.

That was a result of Poyta's comments:

"If it was me and I had those choices I'd get the R32 because I want a car that looks good, has a bit of a wow factor amongst the on-lookers and lets be honest a GTi is so common that really who cares "

Interesting comment re: Mk6 GTi. I like it mainly because it's as refined as the R32 but more nimble and has better handling. It is almost as accomplished as the R32 as a GT. I wasn't particularly impressed with the MkV GTi because it wasn't refined enough

I took it to mean that the R32 was more a girl's car

If you are just going to be putting around town - R32.

If you want to actually enjoy the car with a great pull and sense of urgency get a Pirelli (keeping in mind you will have to allocate at least 5-8k).

Wasn't baiting anyone - just giving my opinion on why I personally would choose the R32 and I stand by my opinion the GTi is just to common to be a standout amongst those 3. Some of Triode's comments are a bit far fetched - mistaken a R32 for a Jetta? Cmon, if you're an enthusiast than you could instantly see that the front bar is completely different. In fact the front bar of a GTi has more in common with a Jetta than the R32 because apart from insert sections the front bars are identicle. If you said some people might mistaken it for a jetta than sure, just like some people would mistaken a GTi for a base model but I as a VW enthusianst and general car nut could spot the different between the GTi and a Pirelli a mile away and I'd never make such a stupid claim that I personally could mistaken the two. In fact ...sorry but I think I'd chose to disregard the opinions of someone who can so easily mistake an R32 for a Jetta. And as for bitching about the fuel consumption....there's not really that much of huge difference in fuel consumption , all three are very similar and very much dependant on your use of the right foot, don't even get me started about comparing the exhaust note to a V8 commodore.

I was just repeating/reinforcing the point you made. Buy the R32 if you want to stand out/show off.

Sure to a VW/car enthusiast would spot the difference easily, but for the lay person (if they even cared) they can't spot the difference - easily.
Take a photo of the R32 front on and the Jetta (front on) from a about 100m away. They are almost identical - right up to the silver centre grill surround.

The point I was making about the V8 Commodore was in relation to the fact that someone (you perhaps?) said to buy the R32 for it's exhaust note to impress people.
If all you want the car for is to impress people, you'd be better off with the V8 dore because the only ones who would impressed with the VR6 are car/vw enthusiasts because the ordinary person in the street would probably be more impressed by the sound of a V8 Holden (if they even cared to notice).

If the sole reason for buying the R32 is for it's exhaust note and to show off, it says a lot about the person buying it.

Mate you're putting words into my mouth here - read my post again, I never said my sole reason for an R32 is to show off or to buy it for an exhaust note. I specifically said the exhaust note is there put a smile on my face, not others and that fact that the car is a show boat helps with the descision, its not the main reason why I would choose one. Still don't agree with idea that someone could mistaken a R32 front for a Jetta. As you can see the front bars are indenticle on the Jetta and the GTi, the R32 is distinctly different.
