As someone who has owned an 08 DSG R32 for a whole week, they are just awesome! Love it totally. But the reason I brought one, is cos one day I got to drive a GTI and suddenly lose interest in my WRX. As has already been said in this thread, drive them both and choose the one that fits YOU.

..because people think "That's a pretty little Golf" and then you give it some gas and they hide their children behind them - not so nice anymore huh?Originally posted by VWEAPN View Postjust to add blue R32's are huuuge headturners..if your into that sort of thing. they get noticed. people get confused. what is that?

1. Never, even with the flapper mod I never get tired of it. This exhaust wasn't tuned by fred at discount exhausts, its a work of art. At 120km/h in 6th the note is subtle. But thats the problem. You find yourself always wanting to kick it down a couple of cogs to hear that crescendo and then all of a sudden your doing 180! Whoops!
2. I have had this thing up to 220km/h on a smooth road, it felt like about 140km/h, very misleading.Volvo S60 RD T6

I have a problem with mine at speeds over 100kph however. I thought it was a wind buffeting noise but it's more like a plastic on plastic banging. It's not very loud but definitely noticeable. Sometimes it doesn't occur until after 130kph but other times it occurs at 110kph depending on wind.

I'm in a similar boat.
Don't know whether to look at a GTI or a R32.
A few MkVI GTI's for under 40k now, decent R32's for 28 for a MkIV to 40 for a MkV.
Decisions decisions.Audi S3. Sold
Golf R. Sold
Citroen DS3 Dsport. Sold
2016 Skoda Octavia RS Wagon.

True, its purely my own personal preference but apart from fuel consumption, additional maintenance and upfront cost I see the R32 better in every other way, sound, looks, interior, handling, pace, traction (in all conditions). I know some complain about the R32 being front end heavy but I fail to see how that's a relevant argument for us who would be using it as a daily driver and not a track car, ive owned the GTI for almost 8 months now and still havent had the chance to drive it hard around some twisties..Originally posted by G-rig View PostThe grass is always greener.. both have pros and cons. R32's are pretty cheap second hand now, but wasn't worth spending the extra over a GTI when I bought an R32 new .MKV GTI

So how are you going to benefit from getting a better handling car that you still wont use around the twisties. Agree the looks and sound is better, and they have good presence on the road.Originally posted by jessv3 View Postive owned the GTI for almost 8 months now and still havent had the chance to drive it hard around some twisties..
If you're due for a new car it would be a good choice.

Thats a good point, I probably wouldnt but the traction I certainly would. Coming from quattro audi's I do miss that planted feeling of an awd..Originally posted by G-rig View PostSo how are you going to benefit from getting a better handling car that you still wont use around the twisties. Agree, the planted feeling is good around corners, but not at the expense of too much weight. Something nimble is fun too, i think the GTI has a much better steering feel than the A4's i've driven (also had a B5 which was a bit of a tank). Around town and on the highway the 4-motion system is mostly FWD anyway (and FWD bias).Originally posted by jessv3 View PostThats a good point, I probably wouldnt but the traction I certainly would. R32's are good cars though so go for it.Last edited by G-rig; 01-12-2010, 10:17 AM.
