I agree. Happened to me last week on the way to work. Guy in a VZ ute with the license plate "VZ UTE" decided to give me a run. It was clear he had done something to his car, modified cam and exhaust is what i thought at a minimum just listening to the car idle. 6 litre V8.

I didn't even use launch control, off the line she just gripped and went, i got 3 car lengths on him and from there the gap remained. Looking at his face in the mirror was epic! It was a complete look of shock!

Next set of lights he didn't want to line up next to me but was forced to swallow his pride.

He motioned for me to roll down the window and asked what i had done to the car. When i told him it only had 1500km on it and was dead stock his face sank, then the excuses began as to why he was beaten.

Proceeded to tell me he had a 50kg tool box in the back and the reason why he was beaten; silly excuse really as in a ute more weight in the back would assist in launching off the line which is where he lost out. I said he needed a 500kg tool box in the back to get decent traction off the line and stand even a remote chance.

The guy also rolled off the start to get better traction, cheater. Still lost though.

schoona any idea where in Sydney he got the mods done? I know it is a single turbo system and the guy is looking to go twin potentially. I'm looking at going twin turbo around June 2010 but need to find a good installer i can trust. No one in Adelaide that i am aware of can to the install with confidence.

Looking to implement the same HPA system also due to its reliability. HPA have never had a major technical problem arising from their forced induction kits.

YEah I believe it was city performance. Grab the october edition opf MOTOR mag (tuner shootout), his car (and Ian's/Rennenhaus) .:R's are in it. Anthony come third to a 911 turbo and a 455k GT2. Have to be happy with that.

Best bet would be to join mkv and PM him directly. I dont really know the guy

Sure this has been mentioned but what about when you leave the indicators say in the turn right position and the parking lights for the right side stay on. Do the same for left, very clever! Love my GTI.

I now know why I work.

Every evening, especially on those difficult days, I walk down to the undercover carpark, slump in those leather seats that seem to stop time, turn that key... and wait for it... the initial whine that seems, oxymoronically, low-pitched, coming from that starter motor, cranking those 6 beautiful pistons.

Then it begins. A cloud of deep, low-frequency sound waves that don't just surround you, but go right through you, almost like the shockwaves of an atomic bomb, numbing your senses. And you just sit there, amazed at the beauty of hundreds of controlled explosions, all at the beck and call of your right foot. And then you push that pedal. My whole world seems to distort whenever I hear those 184 thousand watts being ejected through the stainless steel tubes theyre transported through; With a raspy growl that tingles your skin and makes you smile so hard your facial muscles almost permanently deform.

Even the worst days are now my best, come 6pm. I never knew I could have my mood altered so easily; and it only costs ~$1.35 a litre.

After a while you lose a little appreciation for your ride, well I still LOVE my GTI after every single drive but....
Took it in for the first service and the good ol courtesy car was an auto Polo. Now they seem to be an OK car but dear GOD could i not wait for the GTI again!
I think a MK 6 GTI would have been a little more suitable

So now that I remember what the average car is...... just love my beast even more!

My Golf

I really like the way the engine 'growls' between 1500rpm and 3000rpm... and the torque is very impressive (much more effective pulling power than the v6 Camry and v6 Mazda 626).

Fuel comsumption is better than any car I've owned (including Corolla, 121). Logical given it's the smallest engine I've had, but illogical given the acceleration etc... definately the future for petrol transport!

We use it as a family car, so the slightly softer ride (viz GTI) is great.

Only whinge? Have to remove the 'driver' from the golf bag before the bag will 'fit' in the boot - the club can still go into the boot, but needs to sit alongside the bag... just too long!

Hey Guys, it's been a while since my last post..... just love driving my TSi, got the ECU upgrade and WOWEEE it makes a difference. The torque down low is even more impressive!! The only whinge, it doesn't have a 1.4 badge on the back you hose someone!! when I hosed an ford Fiesta XR4!!! The look on the young blokes face would be priceless!!

Appreciation growing by the minute.

To be honest I bought the car as a one day a week if need be second car, I chose diesel based on the fact that I just spent 10 days in europe in a diesel Citroen C5, I chose a Gold based on residual, drove it around the block and thought yeah pretty good it will do the job. That was Friday.

Monday, picked up the car and drove it to Horsham, still getting used to the sweet spot in the DSG (mastered it tonight), on the highway with a mate good comfortable drive, overtaking a breeze, in fact better than my old 2005 Audi A4.

Last night in quiet old Horsham my car somehow turned into a Go-Cart (bloody deceptacons) anyway as I went for a midnight run through the best combinations of roundabouts, s turns and any other form of twist I could find, I was sold, which was a great benefit considering I had already paid for the car.

Can't wait to really work out driving the little beastie 100% though, just love it!

I've owned my jetta for a week now. Never had a VW before. Easily the best car I've ever owned.

1. Build Quality. My car is 2nd hand with 75,000km yet all the doors close perfectly, no rattles and the interior just seems new - barely a mark. Every control and moving part just seems to be tight and snug
2. Stability. Seem to stick to the road like glue. The car just feels so solid. Effortlessly corners with no lurching, shoots through chicanes and roundabouts. It feels over engineered for most roads which is a good thing.
3. Agility. Bullet like acceleration and stops on a sixpence. Loves corners.
4. Space. Ridiculous amount of room in the boot. Plenty of sittting room for more than 2 adults over 6 ft. Love how you can fold the rear seats down and put bikes in etc.
5. Spartan practical interior design. I seem to keep finding new storage pockets everywhere.
6. Stereo. Its the factory stereo but what a motherload of a system. I like my music loud and punchy but 33% of the volume is enough for me.
7. Funky red and blue lit dashboard at night.
8. The look. Subtle lines and tasteful use of chrome make it look like a small luxury car. But its really a turbo charged sports car in disguise.

Haven't had time to read the manual but I'm sure I'll find a lot more good surprises. Can't see myself buying a non-German car again.
