Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I love the braking performance and emergency systems... had a close call on the freeway coming home. I was behind an Excel which all of a sudden hit the brakes (complete with screaching and smoke), I stopped less than a metre from its back bumper. Not quite sure what happened, think something came off a trailer a few cars ahead.

I also love the fuel consumption as seen above, the highest average fuel consumption on my TDI was 7.4L/100km and that was with lead foot (using the entire rev range) suburban driving. Throw in some freeway and you can get 6.3L/100km while still making good use of the accelerator pedal and Sports mode.

This may sound trivial but i really like the way my armrest for the centre console can be extended forward and increased in height in increments.

I think this sums up the overall design philosophy of VW.

That's 460kms of pure happiness and enjoyment though...lol

With the TDI, even giving it some here and there around town I still manage no worse than about 6.3L per 100km!

I've had it down to 5.2L on a small trip.

            2006 GTI DSG

I love turbos, the woosh is cool.

But I bought this car for the wife (but I do drive it sometimes). DSG is the reason. Most sports cars are manual only. At least this car has the best of both worlds, and paddle shift!

The GTI 's fuel economy is way better than my subaru turbo forester - it's a 2.5L.

Really? I've only filled up twice, first said 460, second time it said 480..

How many k's are you getting from a tank?

hahaha lets just say i dont get anywhere near what my MFD says i will get. best i've ever managed to get was about 560-570kms (normal conditions) but on a long trip (lots of highways and on cruise control) i got up to 600km once! hahaha

Now i average about 500kms. Mind you, i drive to work everyday in peak hour both ways, and it really kills my fuel consumption. In saying that, im averaging about 10.3L/100kms according to my Trip Computer 2.

Wait till you get it back with the new fuel pump - all that extra pressure will have to go out the exhaust - probably only get 12.5 then - haha

I don't believe the figures when you fill up, even if you drove around like a grandma you wouldn't get that much.. haha. I'll have to take note of the km and next time to work out a true average but sure as hell not that much!! Lucky to get over 400.

filled up tonight and it's now saying 580, so seems to be settling down, or the trip computer is getting more confused...

trip computer 2 avg is now showing 13.2L/100, it was around 15.4 at the end of the first tank... I put in 41L and had done 338ks, so 12.1L/100 avg for that tank
