  • R32 insurance

    hi guys

anyone with R32 insurance i would like to know your feedback in terms of insurers

i tried the follow online insurers - no claims or fines, 27 years old plus extra driver (my older wife) and located in northbridge sydney. I know different locations change the rate however it is the difference between insurance for the same area that is interesting

also i was surprised to find the 50% of the insurers wouldn't even give a quote - they all said ring us for a quote (yeah right)

    GIO 1800
    NRMA 1370
    AAMI 1245
    Allianz no
    Shannons no
    Just Car no

so - don't believe the hype - Just Car and Shannons i would have thought the R32 would be standard fare, if anything i would expect NRMA/GIO/AAMI etc to not like the performance golf

anyway - if anyone has any other suggestions i'll try them out too

Interesting mate. I got quoted around $1260 with NRMA. 30 years old at Milsons Point. I have been with them for 5 a bit years with the Alfa and no claims plus I get a discount for having home contents insurance with them (probably the difference in our price).

Just a word of caution - not all car insurance policies are equal - read the fine print first.

I'm insured with RACT - on the mistaken belief that they use only new OEM parts. RACT will use OEM parts only whilst the car is in warranty (extended -warranty excluded).

Some insurance companies will use only non-OEM or 2nd-hand parts.

      Beware.

The wife pranged our just-out-of-warranty Alfa and RACT repaired it with dodgy non-OEM parts (windscreen, panels, radiator, headlights).

i checked AAMI and it states OEM parts are used and also that in the first 12 months of a new car it will be replaced including on-roads at no extra charge if a write off or stolen

Many thanks for that - will investigate switching to AAMI.

But they will use Australian made windscreens not OEM. I with AAMI and was reading the policy on windscreen just the other day. Also think NRMA does new for old for 24months.

Just Cars is underwritten but AAMI. Just Cars will not insure something at AAMI normally would. IE if the R32 is not modded then AAMI will insure and Just cars wont. If there are some mods then both of them will quote. If there are too many mods they leave it for Just cars.

Don't even go anywhere near AAMI...

Try QBE. In some cases they'll do 4 years new for old (which is excellent for finance - no gap needed!), choice of repairer, and all the other usual benefits. Their premiums are brilliantly well-priced!

as far as panelbeaters are concerned,my beater wont even quote for NRMA or AAMI,tells them to P.O!! hassle for remove and replace, and always want second hand parts.he considers their assesors the worst out of all.has high regard for shannons and qbe.

the QBE quote was 2100 (or 1800 for only two drivers)

very expensive but i guess you get what you pay for -

My experience in life so far is that that is usually the case. No point paying for cheaper insurance if when it all hits the fan and you really want it to kick in and save you, it ends up being much less than ideal.

It comes down in the end to what service will the insurance buy you if you need it. There is usually a reason why some insurance policies are much cheaper on average. As someone has already said, it's all in the fine print.

NRMA offer up to a 10% discount if you have Home, Contents and a Green Slip with them. A further 2.5% if you use their health insurance, then a further 10% if you have a policy for more than 5 years, and yet another 10% when you hit 10 years.

Meaning you can get up to 32.5% off.

The 5/10 year thing is PER POLICY, although it can be rolled from vehicle to vehicle. In my case, one policy has been insured with them for 5 years so I get the discount even though the insured vehicle has changed over time.

The other car policy I have has only been in place for 1 year, so they won't give me the extra 10% there, even though I have asked nicely since I have all my insurance with them as well as 3 car policies ATM.

It's amazing though the differences between insurers... My MK1 GLD is comprehensively insured with NRMA at a cost of about $250/year for market value of about $2,700 - $3,100. GIO wanted ~$510 for the same vehicle...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Join a car club and become a cams level 2 speed license holder and ring Shannons back up

Shannons are great, very helpful and know exactly what you are talking about.
