I'm considering the sat nav but for 1 or 2k I might wait a while till I add one. Only read after I bought it that it was easier on the 08.

As far as I know mine is made in south Africa and build quality seems good to me. Lots of little rattles in the city roads but that's normal as far as I can tell and I'm quite sensitive to little noises.

Buying and selling Privately is a bit of a pain and cash is scarce for a while . I can see the advantages of dealers now but overall worked out.

    Good luck with your purchasing
Check the car into your dealer to have the rattles fixed. Our GT had a rattle coming from one of the air vents when we bought it -(it rattled only above 80km/hr and on B roads) - and the dealer fixed it (it was a broken plastic washer apparently).

Yes, a newer car or one with lower kms is a better bet.

The cars in dealers yards and even the private sales GTIs don't seem to be moving fast. So I'm guessing that should make them negotiate! It's just hard to find what you want when there's so little on the market

Once I've bought one, I'll be sure to let you all know!!

EDIT: Oh yeh was going to say, I'd love a new one.. that new cloth interior with all the red stitching/accents is HOT but justifying the expense when its not a commuter is a bit hard for me!

When I bought mine (only 2 weeks ago) I went for the newer car with low km.

Spent more than I wanted but figured it was worth it for a less than 2 year old car with only 12 thou km on it.

As far as getting a 3 door, forget practicality, means you will have the car to yourself more often if people have trouble getting in and out.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I've put a deposit on a 07 with 25k on the clock, new car warranty expires late Sept so I have enough time to throw 1400 odd (based on the sticky thread we have going on here) to extend the warranty. It's a 5Dr too It's candy white, sunroof, leather and parking sensor doodads! Oh and its a 6spd!

How excitement.. no more soccer mum car for this little black duck!

I'd like to know what you paid too. Did you see mine...here it is.

And what did you trade, I might have been interested in that...

I just purchased a 2007 [MY08] GTI with leather, DSG and reverse parking sensors for $30,500. Only had 30,000kms on the clock and very clean car besides the stone chips on the bonnet. Dealer bought. Very happy with it!

That's a good price big al. Low ks and through a dealer. You must be a good haggler.

                        Thanks!

I know im probably not a 'real man' driving a DSG but who cares .. I have a GTI!

Took it for a nice drive through the Royal National Park south of Sydney.. Oh what a day!

                        Congrats on the purchase mmanda!

The dsg is a great gearbox. I dunno if I'd consider the GTI a 'real mans' car either way . I dont buy cars to prove anything to anyone .

I've already had a heap of people comment how they thought I was looking for a car with more performance yet I bought a golf :p. Seems like vw fans (or top gear fans) are the only ones that understand what they're about. And it starts geting annoying how many people ask if it's a diesel

I picked mine up today guys! OMG I couldnt get out of it and can't wait to go drive it again LOL I ended up driving it home the long way, ie Frankston, via Dandenong then to Kensington!

This car goes like stink, its responsive in every gear... the leather is fabulous, the heated seats means you keep warm without having hot air blowing in the cabin... it has bluetooth which works a treat and also the iPod cable that I'm probably not fussed with. So the question is, do I still want the RNS510 even tho I'm fairly happy with the current kit? Time will tell.....

Ok I think we need more milk and bread bye bye

Hmm the rns510 is very tempting, there's hardly anywhere decent to put a gps unless you windscreen mount

just remember to maintain the leather, mine is a bit scratched fom the previous owner and a couple from me already

1 month on and I still get that feeling jumping into it, I'm always taking the long way everywhere I go

have fun with your new toy!

Just retrofitted the RNS510. Placed the GPS under the dash, works well, no probs so far. And the Hard Drive saves me from putting in an ipod connector. Just need to find a decent bluetooth option that wont break the bank!

What type of car did you have before the GTI?

Your not wrong there, but that does also extend to car reviewers and critics. Soo just get these ppl to read up on some motoring reviews and tests of the GTI before they start dishing out their 2 cents
