I'm looking at spending as little as possible, around the 35 mark.
I'm really confused about the present model range, and the new range coming out.
I know what I want, a 3 door, Tdi Sports. Which I believe hasn't/will not be released here in Oz. (Sorry I'm English). I drove my friends chipped Tdi Sport back in UK, and it was a rocket. I really begrudge paying a lot for fuel.
As far as I can work out the new GT Tdi isn't going to be released in Au, So there are no 3 door Golf Tdi (Not 1.9) models with a "sports" pack?
Also am I right in thinking there are no 4 motions released here in Oz?

    Any clarification would be great!!
Also, how did you find John Hughes? Easy to deal with? Do they haggle? Are they arses because they hold the VW monolopy?

Many Many thanks guys, What a great forum!!

      Hey Hewzie,

Just saw you talked to dealer in Bunbury about the GT Tdi. I spoke to John Hughes today and they assured me there are no plans to bring the GT Tdi to Australia?

The guy at John Hughes didn't sound like he had a clue about anything! If you/anyone would like to clarify this for me, it would be appreciated!

        Hi guys,
I have been away up north for a week working. I will be back in town Friday and sadly, I was hoping John Hewzie might have CORRECT info re the GT tdi, sounds unlikely now. Bugger.

I have had my 3dr R32 Blue, recaros, for 1 week tomorrow.

I am finding as a 34yr old, very disturbing to be sitting in my car just looking at it... let alone when i am driving the thing.

After 5 years with a company ( falcon ) car, i can't believe i am so excited about driving again.

I have always wanted one. I wanted a mk4 and then they came out with this...my reason for driving.

What ever you end up with, make it your choice, whether it be money or fuel costs or whatever. It is an emotional want, buying a car.

Whichever leaves with that feeling of... 'why can't i stop thinking about the car'

            cheers

Fantastic news Hewzie!! Well done for the info mate, appreciated.
I'm sick of ringing dealers who don't know about if it's the GT Tdi, or the GTI Tdi? different prices quoted from Bunbury and not available from John Hughes?
So thanks again for a definitive answer Hewzie.

Bear in mind this info is from ONE dealer only. And, as history shows, they often seem to be taking far too much medication.
But assuming he is correct, it certainly makes the decision a little tougher (or maybe easier) than I expected.
Anyway this thread has had its day and seems to be heading down a Days of our Lives theme. I seem like an old woman, so can we let this one fade away? I'm off to buy myself a Golf R16/tdi hybrid, with xenon tail lights, a sunroof on the bonnet cos I want it to be a convertible! Silver at the front...red at the rear......2 x 17" wheels and 2 X 19". And air horns, too.
                    DONE

Hewzie... be realistic here, the R32 is a fantastic car but what if we did a comparison...

                        GTI (Chipped) - Around $50-52K? - FASTER THAN AN R32 (188kw)... or
                        R32 - Around $65k (ish)?

                        You do the math...

Realistically - it's his money - if you want to talk about mods, you can throw money at any car to make it faster.

R32 - 184KW and AWD Std - Leather everything, Bi-Xenons, Metallic paint all part of the cost, recaros (which I have in mine) as an option. For performance upgrades check out HPA - not cheap but...

GTI - 147Kw and FWD Std - Leather, Xenons, Metallic paint - all options, no recaros at any price, and no matter how much you throw at it no AWD (deal breaker for me).

I've owned a couple of WRX's, a 2 door STi, and a Lancer GSR prior to the R32, so I know you can get performance cheaply in Turbos.

If you want the best of both worlds, spend a few grand more and get an Audi S3.

Different audience, different customers, personal choice.

My decison between an R32 and GTI has nothing to do with speed performance. Both cars are powerful enough for me and I won't use half of their pontential 90% of time. The deciding factors for me:

                            1. V6 sound
                            2. AWD
                            3. brake
                            3. suspension

I figured if I opt the GTI up to similar R32 spec, the price difference won't be that much and I will never get number 1 and 2 in a GTI.

R32........For me it was noise, noise, noise! Now even better with upgraded system. Plus, the ride to my mind is far better than a GTI on 18's, the AWD grip is outstanding (first time in an AWD for me) and the brakes are simply awesome.

It's sure personal: I also prefer the looks (front end, stance) and the price....for what is really only 5 or 6k more, spec for spec, you get the extra power and AWD. Bargain in my mind. Smash's most other Euro's out there unless you want to dump $100k plus on a 335 BM
