Availability depends on what spec you want. When I ordered I could have taken delivery a week later, but would have ended up paying for a bunch of options I didin't want.
Also depends on the dealer. For the car I wnated one dealer quoted a july delivery. I tried another and they beat that by 2 months, as they had what I wanted already on a boat - seems VW promises specific cars to each dealer.
So it's worth checking a few dealers for stock.

The dealers I spoke to were prepared to bargain more on price on cars that were on the boat than the cars in stock. No idea why.

If you've got the money and don't care about fuel consumption go the R32, but if you pick the GTI you won't be disappointed - it's an awesome car.

Red may be the devils colour, but this car is pure heaven

Yeah it was what made me choose the R32 instead of the GTi I was looking at initially. I ordered my car in mid April I think

I certainly hope that when I get to test-drive a few different models, it will all become much clearer than it is right now. I can imagine the diesel (with upgrade) would be a weapon, so I will give it serious thought. But don't blame me if I settle on an R32. Anywhere inbetween would be fine, I'm just pushing my boundaries a little. Stay tuned..

Bloody hell, test drove an R32 and love it, then drove a diesel and love it too. Then dealer said, how about you buy a 2dr GTi or better still buy this 'sleeper', a Jetta FSI (GTi motor). What does a bloke do?
My lady came up with one line..."you are spending too much, so go and buy exactly what you want", so I reckon I will go for the......Hyundai Getz....no, kidding, still undecided but will probably go for the Black 3 dr R32. I like!!!
(I think its just for the sound!)

Sounds like a no-lose situation to me. Either way you end-up with a great car.

                  Which One!!!!

I too went thru hell trying to decide which model. In the end my head ruled & after driving the sales bloke mad wanting to drive all the models, I ended up with a comfortline 2l diesel. Ive had it now nearly a year now,8k on it and I absolutely love the damn thing. Bazz

Hewzie, go for the ultimate in the whole range - the 2.0 diesel in Sportline Spec with leather AND DSG and then chip it once it has done 7-10 thousand ks and you will seriously kick arse - the only thing missing is all wheel drive - can't argue against that point!! Mate, the diesel with any of the chips is seriously sporty and makes some of my 'petrol head' mates seriosly jealous - and they drive V8s crummydores and turbo V6 falcons!!! If they want it, then it has serious cred in the sporty drive stakes! AND you get some serious change out of 57 THOUSAND dollars - try about 15 grand in your pocket to spend on some mods and toys!!

                      Hey Briseos,
I just got back home from a visit to another dealer. He questioned why I would want an R32 when I talked about diesels so much. THEN...he hit me with the big proposition. "Why not wait a couple of months and get the first GT Tdi, with the more powerful motor?".
Crikey, now I am doubting the need for the R32 and I hate that feeling.
I actually need a Toureg, R32 and Tdi. No desire for the Caddy.

They will be a way cool model, best of all worlds methinks.
Same power as a chipped 2.0TDI achieves now, so you wanna wait - for what

                        cheers

Yeah, I think logic has taken over. I must apologise too, for the title I gave this thread, obviously I had only done half my homework!! Buying a VW is such a emotional thang.
Anyway, I reckon it will be best if I put in an order for the GT Tdi. Problem is, I may need to bypass the local dealer. When I made enquiries today about ordering etc, the young gun looked blankly and said "They aint making a diesel GT!" When I corrected him he still looked confused, but then a light went on and he said "Oh yeah, thats right, the boss did mention diesels are coming later, when we got our first petrol GT."
Mmmmm. Feel like he might end up presenting me with a new Polo???? Then I'd have to kill him.

                              Mate,
I'm in the exact same boat as you. I have realised that this is probably the worst time to make a decision on a golf. The mark 5 Golf is an amazing car, which ever guise you decide to get. The decision on petrol/diesel is hard enough to make your head explode. Then we enter into the equasion the new GT in both petrol and diesel, and my head hurts even more..
Common sense dictates a nice second hand 2L Tdi, around the 20g mark. But as we know there are very few late model Tdi's knocking around, especially in Perth.
I don't know how long my 1980 datsun Bluebird will last me..Hours not days..
Anyone have any idea about the costings of the new GT Tdi? Or help me grow some balls and make a decision??
                              Much appreciated
