  • Done the homework...

Hi guys, Yeah I have spent far too much time researching Golfs and not enough time driving. But this isn't entirely my fault, as I work fly in/fly out and have been in isolation for 3 weeks. However, in that time I have become an R32 fan. I was once simply a 2litre diesel fan, with a dream to get a GTi! But now I figure WTF, its only money.
Anyway, what is the CURRENT state of play regarding the wait-time after ordering a new VW? Are there R32s available for immed delivery and is the GTi wait period still a few months? Is there a wait for all models? That would be a killer blow for any new purchaser, after finally selecting the car/features etc and then being told it'll be ready in 3 months. No!!!!!! Not for me.
I am also split between the 3 door and the 5 door (or should that be 2 and 4?)
I can even see myself being talked into a 2litre diesel, too. I am so fickle. But I test drove one of them a year ago and raved for months about how well they performed. No....bugger it, I'm going R32. I'm certain now?????
Is this sort of confusion common?

Two words to further confuse you: fuel prices

      98RON vs diesel

I'm in the same situation as you - except I'm 9/10ths decided on a GTI, but wondering if the diesel would be a better long-term proposition, given the current price of 98RON here in Hobart. Heart vs head, I guess.

My dealer (Hobart) quoted a 12 week wait for a GTI, depending on spec.

      SS
2018 Golf GTI, Manual - gone.
2017 Golf 110tsi Trendline, manual (gone - gladly)
2007 Golf GTI, Manual, (gone - sadly)
1978 Golf GLS; 1972 Superbug, (memories)

wait times seem to depend on spec. i was offered a heap of cars but none of them matched what i wanted when i ordered my gti so it seems they do have a fair few cars either in stock or already on the boat headed for aus.

Oooooo yeah, I was trying to avoid the fuel cost issue. Today I don't care about that...but tomorrow and all those days afterwards???? But the noise... surely that compensates. And then there is the '5 steps away' factor. Not sure diesel would have that. My Triumph Speed Triple does and R32 will, too.
Park it, walk 5 steps away and try NOT to turn around and look!! n:

            Welcome to VWwA Hewzie

I'd go the R32 in Black in 3dr config

Waiting time will depend on current stock and what specs you want.

Hey Mario... I was so tempted by the new Megane, until I compared the dashboards and interiors in general. R32 whoops as$. Well, when I get back into the city later this week, I'm sure I will make up my mind quickly.

Hewzie - welcome mate. Go the R32 in black, 3 door, DSG

There were R32s available when I ordered mine, it depends on the spec though. I could have had a silver one with my spec that day. I sort of wish I had now, due to what the Alfa is doing to me

Thanks Rabbitoh, thats exactly what I want. Black, 3 doors and not fussed about g'box. Can you tell me roughly what you paid for the one you've ordered? I like the idea of ordering exactly what I want, for once in my life.

2.0 TDI is my very first diesel car and as my signature says will not go back to petrol again. Owned VS commodore previously
I get 850KM out of my tank going to work (Morley) and back (Hilton). May not have take of power as petrol engines but when turbo and low torque kicks in you'll be amazed. (unless you're a little bit of a petrol head no offence meant).

Rabbitoh, I'd like some of that discount!! Maybe I can arrange something similar. Good thinking. So by ordering your car, how long is the wait?
And yeah AKKADAKKA, I know what you mean about diesel, I've been in the "never buy petrol again' stage, but I just want some 'spank' in my car, not "naah naah...I get 1000kms a tank". Although having both would be nice!
I can see myself going diesel, so I need to talk tough and buy quickly, before it really happens!! Now I'm getting all confused again.... STOP IT you guys.
