Yes, folks, I've made a comittment to myself that whenever I'm in the car waiting I will spend that time RTFM.

    Today I

    1. Confirmed and practised how to lift the wipers.
    2. Discovered that the hazzard lights come on automatically if you fully depress the brake pedal at 60kmh or faster. (I didn't actually practise this one - just read about it)

    Interesting.

I discovered the wiper thing, but also read about a button in the back of the van I didn't know was there (and I don't think does anything).

The big one for me was the auto wipers, although it wasn't so much the manual (which I read afterwards) as it was me accidently leaving the switch on and the rain starting The manual quickly revealed that what I thought was intermitent speed was actually auto sensitivity.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

The manual doesn't go into all the detail (Mk V and VI are the same IIRC)

Volkswagen Golf Emergency Brake Warning Flash

Deaceleration has to be higher then 7m/s² and
for a duration longer then 700ms or
the ABS must be active for more then 2 seconds.

If only there were more VW owners like you guys!

A lot of customers we deal with seem to be put-off by the size of it. Also, the response "You expect me to read all of that?!" gets a frequent mention.

this must not be active in my jetta. did a defensive driving course the other week where we were required to emergency brake from 60 and then 65 kmh. did not see the hazards come on.

Most likely you didn't hit the brakes hard enough for the speed you were doing although it is possible they're disabled. Unless you're looking at the dash you won't know that they're operating.

Not sure if this is in the manual but if you crash the car it will turn off the engine and fuel pump, turn on the interior light and unlock the doors. If the car has the approriate module (not available in Australia) the car will also call for help.

yeah... maybe you need to go do some "seated rows" & step ups for 60mins to beef up your leg muscles.

clearly you're not stomping on it hard enough!

OR - what mav said about it being switched off.

Was turned off on MY07 Jetta TDI. I turned it on with VCDS but I haven't had it activate (that I've noticed) yet but I am unlikely to meet it's conditions anyway.
