  • Keen to drop my Jetta on its nuts.

Well maybe not on its nuts, but i figured if i put that in the title it'd attract a lot of you suspension enthusiasts.

My Jetta, stock, looks too much like a 4WD . So i want to make it nice and loowwww . However my issue is, that this is my daily drive so i don't want it to be so low that its a nuisance in the sense of comfort and getting over speed bumps. I figured coil overs are a waste of money since it's difficult to tremendously enjoy a car with only 110kw, and i'll never track it.

I want to know how low i can go (that rhymed) before i start having to shell out for new shocks. I read somewhere that a set of H&R 35mm lowering springs will enable me to use the existing shocks, however i think i'd like to go lower than that.

Any info of how much people have dropped their MKV's, how much it cost them and also what the drive is like would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot guys,
    Platzie.

sorry mate but i think your missing the point of coilovers.

Its not to track the car (it may have been initially), they are designed to give you the height you desire without the trade offs of having a lowered spring (un-matched damper/spring rates = bumpy crap ride). Believe me I've had both...

I say just get a nice quality coilover, get the height you desire and still retain a nice daily ride quality

I've dropped my car. Eibach 35mm drop for $950. Defs made a massive difference for the appearance.

I honestly can't say the handling's improved, but I don't really race around enough to notice it...

You've just gotten me re-interested in coilovers haha. Would a good set of coilovers be cheaper than a set of 50mm lowering springs with matching shocks?

I do like your jetta, although id like mine just a little bit lower than that. I may just have to end up settling for 35mm springs. Also where'd you get those side skirts? I want some

PM "Lorenz" on here for various suspension kit prices. I would not get a cup kit, coilovers are the ONLY way to go if you want to get your stance spot on.

H&R do awesome coilovers for the mk5 (ride, handling and stance = spot on!). Other quality manufacturers are KW, Weitec, Bilstein, Koni.

dont get springs. I got them once and was just never happy with the stance. For $1500+ your looking at quality coilovers, worth the extra outlay IMO.

Whats the deal with coilovers, do you just get a set of them and chose your height, or are there different sized ones. Like 35mm and 50mm?

coilovers have a threaded body, and you wind them up and down as you wish. There will be a maximum and minimum drop depending on brand, type etc

Got a quite for some H&R Monotube Coilovers - $2048 delivered to my door.

How much do you think it would cost to get them fitted? Or could i do it myself at home?

                          Cheers.
