          Hi rabbitoh,

I would say the best in Sydney is Fhrx Studios in Kirrawee, although not on the North Side.

          Check out - http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...thepowercosmic

Marty completed my simple install of a pair of splits to my R32.

If you are interested in getting your work done by Marty mention Stan he will look after you.

Cheers Stan. Will have to give them a call.

The bloody Alfa is out to get me now. I need to get her re registered, the bloody airbag light that ignored for a few months is not a glitch - the thing is stuffed and needs to be replaced. Depending on the price, I am going to have to wait for Sat Nav now.....

The little video on the Pioneer looks very interesting, but I must admit that I too have doubts about whether we'll ever see it here, at least as displayed on the video. Basically, most of the map features that they describe are actually features of the mapping software, not the Pioneer itself, so unless somebody actually makes up an Australian map that incorporates those features, then they won't exist here. The best Oz software that I've seen comes from Sensis, and whilst it works well, it's nothing like that on the vid.

As a possible alternative, you might care to look at the Eclipse AVN6000. It doesn't have Bluetooth, but it does have pretty well everything else that the Pioneer has, and you can get it here.

Correct but I quote from the MOTOR article 'Pioneer, the biggest brand in Sat Nav in America and Japan, has bitten the bullet and had Sensis make up mapping software compatible with it's equipment'. They are the guys who provide maps for whereis.

                Sounding good

That's good to hear, but I'd probably be prepared to bet that they'll simply be making the current Sensis maps compatible, not rewriting the whole thing. In any event, it's about time that some of this stuff became available to us.

Agreed. The big brands have pretty much ignored us. Let's hope it's the start of a trend.

I've now had a chance to have a good look at the Pioneer, and whilst I liked some features, overall, I wasn't all that impressed.

Firstly, I think it just looked cheap compared to the Eclipse. I didn't like the fact that I needed to access just about everything via the touchscreen. The Eclipse makes better use of a few fixed buttons to reduce having to burrow through menus. Perhaps familiarity plays a part here, but that's how it struck me.

I remain concerned about the status of the maps too. As this is apparently something Pioneer have had to have rewritten by Sensis, I wonder if they will sell enough of these units to make it viable for every Sensis update to be incorporated. It would really give me the s**ts to find the Sensis is up to map 16, but Pioneer is stuck on 14 or so. The Eclipse won't suffer that problem because its maps are interchangeable with the ones used in Toyotas, so there is immediately some economy of scale.

In any event I've decided that I'll stick with the Eclipse, and I'll be having one installed in the R32 as soon as it arrives. The installer has already done an R32, and was apparently able to keep all of the steering wheel functionality.
