Dashboard Rattle

Nah.. I get where your are going with the ticking sound. The sound is not like the signal ticking sound. It is very faint, only if I am in the basement (where I normally start up the car) where it is very very very quiet, I hear it. It goes very fast too, like tickticktickticktick, stop, then tickticktickticktick, stop. Something like that.

I have the same thing. Always just after start-up and doesn't seem to last for long. Same erratic manner. I thought it was coming from somewhere around the driver's side air vent. I'll bow to Maverick's vast knowledge when he says it's fuel injectors. Question is: Is it worth a trip to the stealer's to fix and what would be involved? Or is it something that you live with?

Did you bother to read where I said to stick your head under the bonnet to see where the noise was coming from?

It could be the fuel line rattle that I mentioned earlier but as you haven't posted any reasonable description of the noise, the conditions under which it occurs and any other pertinent information you can't expect anyone to solve it for you over the Internet. Take it to the dealer who will have enough problems finding the problem when they can hear it in person.

If you want to see if it's the fuel line rattle do a search as there are threads telling you how to diagnose it.

this is off topic, but it has to do with something rattling. Most of the time, when I start up the car, I hear this ticking sound. Like some mechanical ticking counter. And occasionally it goes on for about a minute , 10-20 seconds interval. Can anyone hear the same sound cause when I ask my ms, she said she cant hear a damn thing? Or do I have bionic ears?

On my wife's MK V Jetta TFSI, this noise is like a slight knock/ticking sound, identified by the dealer as the the climate control regulator thingy (technical term) which will make some adjustment noises on start up. Normal and nothing to worry to about.

I'd take it back to the dealer and let them sort it out, it could be any one of a number of problems from loose fuel lines to broken trim. It's unlikely to be the trim between the dash and windscreen.

Also on the wife's Jetta, she had rattling fuel lines shortly after delivery and an intermittent rattle from the passenger side of the dash, almost sounded like a buzzing sound. The dealer eventually identified and fixed the problem (they had the car for a week, but gave us a Golf MK6 TDI at no cost) The problem seems to have originated from the VIN plate behind the windscreen, to fix that they had to dismantle the entire dash, been 6 months now and no more problems.

Without wishing this to descend into a slanging match the description was vague because the sound is vague. As stated it's "erratic", as in it comes and goes. Also as stated it sounds like it's internal. As it's not exactly the easiest thing to replicate at a DLR, I was really just looking for some general pointers not a precise diagnosis. Appreciate your comment though. Next time I'll try to be more "Crystal".

This could be the suspect as it sounds like it's coming from somewhere around the driver's side air vent. I'll play around with Climate control the next time it happens.

After replacing the thrust sensor, I was getting this rattle underneath the steering column. This time i investigated and found out that there was a common problem with the fuel line knocking against the frame, which bloody annoyed the hell out of me. OMG! It only rattles when the RPM goes just above 1K. From inside the car, it really sounded like something was loose somewhere behind the steering. and for WEEKS i was banging my head trying to figure out where it came from.

I followed this DIY and instead of foam sheets, I used foam blocks.
I cut them up to about 8(H)x8(W)x10(L) cm and stuffed it in the hole. I hope that was ok. Do water generally get to that area? Cause when i got the panel out, gosh it was dirty. And if water gets to that area, I'm afraid that the foam will absorb the water.
