Speaking of DSG farts, I ripped a mean one yesterday, 5th gear to second then back to 5th with a bit of throttle

I did, and they were just another manual gearbox. You cant make much special out of a manual box, they are all basically the same. The DSG is unique and modern and a hell of a lot of fun when you get to know them.

PLUS I have never been asked the question "Did you get the manual?" but get asked every time "Did you get the DSG one?"

Love the DSG and wouldnt even consider a manual box any more.

          BUT each to their own!

Personally I see every manual differently for eg.. a Honda S200's notchy, direct, short throw shift is so addictive and then to use a Tremec T56 in a Commodore.... NO FUN!!
I do agree that everyone asks if it is a DSG gearbox and I do LOVE my DSG it is a fantastic step forward in manualised automatic gearbox technology and so damnnn fun, very smart when it comes to track work also

Been a manual fan all my life but coming from an MX5 and S2000's gearbox I found the Golf manual gearbox and clutch feel and pedal placement not ideal. So I opted for the DSG since it's going to be my DD. It's brilliantly capable although no matter how smart the DSG is, it will never replace the good three pedal setup. But unless you're driving the car only for mountain runs, the DSG is a better daily proposition. On the track it would be quicker but less fun than a manual.

I was worried coming from an 5spd Auto back to a 6spd Manual since a lot my driving is heavy city but ive actually adapted to it easier then i thought. There is the rare moment where i just curse having a clutch, like crawling across the harbour bridge but the rest of the time i dont even think about it. The only real advantage I can see over not having a clutch is that any one else can drive it (i.e your partner) but thats debatable on being a negative or a positive.

Your partner driving it would be a negative! I may just put a dummy clutch pedal on mine now... like your thinking

I used to trust my ex driving my MR2 years back until one day the po po's called me..... she was doing 150km/h with her friend in the car. They said she went passed them hitting the rev limiter in every gear, I was shocked or was I stupid?
Last time she used my cars, partly due to her losing her license

haha wow, the only thing that would make that story worse is if the engine was stone cold at the time.

My gf is a slow driver but some how always ends up in bingles..

A mate of mine has a damn fast (and amazingly ugly) M6 with custom plates.

I recently spotted his car absolutely THRASHING near my house.

Next time I saw him I asked what he was doing driving like a tool on a residential street at 5:20pm??!
His answer? "the missus had the car that day... Might have a chat with her later"

                          oops.
