Hi all, a recent new owner of an R32 DSG and I'm wondering why the display of the gears in manual mode is reversed on the MFD. It reads 654321. It seems arse backwards. Wouldn't reading 123456 be more intuitive since you click right to upshift and and click left to downshift?

Wouldn't it be better to read them as
1
2
3
4
5
6
or
6
5

3
2

Seeing as if you change manually using the gear lever they go in that order and not left to right?
In other words it doesn't matter and you can't please everyone. I have never given a second thought to the order the gear display indicates as it doesn't make any difference.
I use the paddle shifts on the steering wheel to manually change gears so it's left to right for me. But regardless of using the stick or paddles, wouldn't the number sequence reading from left to right in ascending order 123456 make more sense? It's a little disconcerting to me because if the highlighted gear is 4th gear and I upshift (clicking the paddle on the right), then the highlight box moves to the left to show 5th gear. It doesn't worry me too much but I was just wondering what the logic of this descending order display was from VW.
Doesn't the MkVI have the gear displayed in large text in the centre of the MFD ? Much better idea I reckon. I agree it would be more logical for it to read left to right in relationship to the paddles. Bloody Germans.
Yeah I wish there was a way to display the gear you're in with a large number in the middle of the MFD. That would be so much better than trying to look at the small line at the bottom.
Yes I'm definitely happy with it overall. Just some niggles I've noticed since ownership that weren't apparent during the test drive that's all.
Like the boot being hard to shut properly. I pull down on the handle and then have to put my hand on the boot lid with forceful shove or it won't close properly.
The steering wheel not being able to pull out enough for reach so I have to sit closer with my legs to the pedals than I would like.
The AWD system and sensitive throttle with low end torque causing me problems in balancing the car mid-corner (although that's just a learning curve).
The paddle shifters being too small and too "clicky" but I'm rectifying that with S2T paddles coming in a few weeks.
Bazzle, a huge favour to ask but can you help with the install in exchange for a nice bottle of red?

Not sure why you want to look at the MFD to work out if you need to change up or down when using the paddles? Plenty of other things (especially with the VR6 sound track) to sort that out right?
