The VW Austral dealer at Newstead said that, the guy had no idea about any of the cars and he was so full of **** his eyes were brown so i dunno if thats the truth or not. Yeah i'll be sure to give JMac a bell if i do decide to get it.

Jetta - FSI or TDI?

I have a 2.0 FSI Jetta and love it,the motor is nippy enough, quiet, and economical, and the automatic transmission is a 6 speed unit, which is silky smooth.
I think any of the Jettas would make an ideal car,you are lucky to be getting something with all the luxury and safety equipment as standard.

a high torque low power car can be just as fast as a high power low torque car.
I'd also look into insurance because most insurance companies dont frown upon a Turbo Diesel car as much as a Turbo Petrol car as thankfully for now they are not considered as a "hoon" car.
Why not test-drive both and see which you prefer - I was blown away by the performance of the diesel when I test drove my golf and would never consider a standard N/A petrol engine.2007 Black Magic VW Golf GT TDi, Latte Leather, Sunroof, Bluefin Superchip, 18" Detroits, APR lower torque arm insert, APR Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake system, GTi sideskirts & front lip, R32 Rear Bar, GTi Steering wheel, RNS-510,Infinity BassLink Subwoofer, stubby antenna, R8 Oil Cap, Golf R front calipers, slotted front rotors, ceramic brake pads, LITEC LED tail-lights, Dension Gateway Five, Rear Emblem Reverse Camera, H&R Ultralow coil-overs, Badge-less front grille

So i would have to settle with just the 2L FSI or the TDI. I was just wondering, because the diesel is turbocharged, are there easy tuning capabilities for it? Or do people generally not bother with tuning a diesel? If not, which would you choose, the FSI or the TDI?

I wasn't trying to say that a TDI is faster than a GTi or slower because he's not comparing the two, he's comparing a TDI with a standard FSI jetta and the point i was trying to get across is that a TDI ( even in stock mode ) is not far off the performance of a GTi and therefore more of a performance car than a Jetta FSI.Last edited by poyta; 15-04-2010, 12:28 PM.2007 Black Magic VW Golf GT TDi, Latte Leather, Sunroof, Bluefin Superchip, 18" Detroits, APR lower torque arm insert, APR Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake system, GTi sideskirts & front lip, R32 Rear Bar, GTi Steering wheel, RNS-510,Infinity BassLink Subwoofer, stubby antenna, R8 Oil Cap, Golf R front calipers, slotted front rotors, ceramic brake pads, LITEC LED tail-lights, Dension Gateway Five, Rear Emblem Reverse Camera, H&R Ultralow coil-overs, Badge-less front grille

From one P plater to another, I wouldn't worry too much about tuning the car for performance, it's just not worth it. I could add a $1500 exhaust to my car and get another 10-15hp if I'm lucky. Comparitively, I had a ride in Shane's chipped Golf GTI last night and holy crap that thing is so fast, it was awesome. Now I'm just saving my money, it'd be an absolute waste to go and burn it trying to add power as a P plater.
I also went in Maca's TDI Jetta, it has the Oetinger chip, and goes alright, so I'd probably choose that if I were you.

Oh no i wasn't going to bother tuning a naturally aspirated engine. I was more interested in seeing what kinds of power increases can be seen through tuning the ECU of a TDI. And then getting peoples opinions on what to get. Still unsure of what to get though, whether it be a Jetta, Golf, Passat, or Jaguar X-type.

Ive been considering a Golf for a while .. in TDI, FSI or GTI.. but Jetta seems like a good alternative.
Is the suspension in the Jetta TDI same as the Jetta FSI?
And how is the handling / fun to drive factor when compared to a Golf equivalent?
I don't know why, but Hatchbacks just "seem" to be better balanced and less awkward than the saloon version to drive aggressively? Maybe I'm just imagining it.
That is why I'm always wanted the Golf GTI, but they hold their value too well to be a "value" second hand buy.
I know i should just go drive to find out, but its soooooo hard to get a spirited drive and real feel for the car when the owner/dealer guy is next to you.
Its over to you guys
And one more question about TDIs...
What is it that makes it so slow on paper in a straight line? I thought torque is what counts.
With neck snapping 320nm and only a few kw less.... why is it slower than the FSI from 0-100?
What is the rev limit / power band like?

although the golf tdi i drove wasnt as nearly as bad as our 407 diesel.
The pugoets complete lack of respensiveness untill 2000 rpm then a sudden pull up till like the rev limiter at like 4500 makes for good fun though hahasigpic
