Sorry to hear your GTI got hail damaged.
Hope it all gets fixed to your satisfaction.

I had my car assessed last Thursday (insured with RACV) and they have deemed it repairable. I had damage to the roof, bonnet and c-pillar. Whilst I was getting the car assessed I had a chat with one of the dent removal dudes and he explained that they'd be able to get the dents out of my car no probs. Additionally, once they get the dents out of the roof they replace the head liner with a new one because apparently the head liner is glued in and on removal the holding clips get busted. I really love my car so I had mixed emotions about it getting repaired. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it turns out... It's booked in for repair at the end of SEPTEMBER! Eh what do you do?
I had the missus car assessed as well and was certain it would get written off but because it's agreed value is more than the repair costs, they're gonna repair it... ah well at least I don't have to fork out for another car right now. Got too many other expenses to worry about...
Just as a note, due to the fact that RACV are using paintless dent removal it is cheaper for them to repair cars rather than replace and as a result not too many are being written off, unlike AAMI for example.
OH and to top it all off, on the weekend a kangaroo found its way under my car and as a result the front spoiler is cracked in 3 places!!! Another claim and another drama....
Good luck to you Gerhard, I hope the insurance gods look upon you favourably

Hey guys, well good news as RACV has approved for it to be repaired.
Fanaki, are they giving you a choice of repairer??? or are they only letting you use dents and dings?
I was not present at the assessment of my gf's car, but as i understand it you still have choice of repairer??? anyway will be looking at where to bring the car into. I have previously had my own car (not vw) been repaired by charlie batiste who have done a great job, but i do not know if they deal such dents.
anyone got any suggestions for who is good for getting rid of dents?

RACV do give you a choice of repairer. If you can get a few quotes, RACV will review and then determine if your chosen repair will do a suitable job.
Otherwise I don't have any other suggestions for an alternate repairer.'81 Sigma| Sports Steering Wheel| Rust

Just a word of advice .... check your policies carefully. Someone I know had their MK5 golf damaged in the hail storm and it was written off recently. The insurance company said they would pay out the book value. They then read their insurance policy / PDS and found that if the car was under two years old (which it is) the policy would give a new car replacement. They contacted the company and they said ..."oh yeah" ..... so read your paperwork carefully as the companies are not always forthcoming!

So yes, buyer beware applies to all things, even when you are "buying" a claim on the policy.
But AAMI, at least in my case, was absolutely forthcoming with the information at the earliest opportunity. The GTI is at the repairers now, will have it back next week.sigpic

hey guys,
well not too sure if racv has a new for old policy?? couldn't find anything in the pds.
anyway, my gf took her car down to charlie batiste who said that if they did the work it would be a write off, even though a) racv approved the repair and b) charlie batiste is an approved racv repairer. i do understand that they tend to charge more than the average repairer but they are meant to do a top notch job.
oh well...
bazzle, do you have the contact details for phil mundys??
