any mkv's written off from the hail storms?

Hi guys,
new here, and am wondering if any mkv owners have had their car written off due to hail damage?? found a thread on a mkvi which was written off, but was wondering what mkv guys were experiencing. My gf has a 2.0fsi mkv and we still have to wait about 2 weeks to be assessed. damage is quite widespread, bonnet, roof and 2 doors have dents all over them. Problem is if it is written off, and we get market value then it will cost a bit to get a similar car

ps, if there is another thread with this info on it please excuse me, i did a search but couldnt find much.

1. Check Pickles Auctions for cars, I believe a few might have been.
2. Always insure at agreed value.

definitely agreed value, most insurance company have a threshold for agreed value for a certain car at certain age. It won't be that much more than the market value (few thousand), but it is a peace of mind.

I am having my MY 07 Jetta inspected by Allianz on the 19th of April.It is absorlutely immaculate,and has been a brilliant car in every aspect.

Hope it will NOT be written off,as the new Jetta 6 is still a year away..........

My choices have been narrowed down to another Jetta,this time a 118 TSI,OR a Corolla Ultima with everything,or an Accord Euro with not many luxury features...

had no idea agreed value was not much more if at all than market value. oh well theres always next time.

anthony, good luck with yours. my gfs assessment is booked in for the 17th of april with racv. if it does get fixed at least there is a choice of repairer, not too sure with allianz though??

One of my reasons that I went with Allianz when I bought the Jetta was that they give you your choice of repairer,who is always VW approved.

I also had the new for old policy,which had just expired...

Good luck for the 17th,I am getting a bit uptight,as was so not planning any of this...

i went into one of the vw dealers yesterday to ask about vw approved repairers. Apparently there is no official list of "approved" repairers or anything like that, but he was able to provide with a couple of places that VW uses.
i described the damage to him and he was saying that its a relatively big job if they have to remove the roof to fix the dents. Im not sure on the technicalities but he said that the reason its a lot more difficult is because the VW roofs are laser welded as opposed to spot welded. oh well, will have to wait and see.

another option we are considering if it is written off is buying it back off the insurance company for its salvage value and running the car to the ground

My Golf TDI 2.0 Man Mark V Comfortline has gone to heaven.
AAMI were very good.
Now waiting on money from AAMI..Handed car back last Thursday.
I had damage on bonnet, roof, rear lid spoiler, RH door skins and both front fenders.. Was too much to repair, they said there were too many dents not deep ones but just too many..
I am getting Mazda 3 Diesel hatch to replace it. I dont like the Mark 6.

Beware taking over a vehicle which has been written off.

Plenty are doing this, then finding they can't register the car due to the damage, and if they repair it and get it roadworthy, they can't insure it.

Very much a minefield.

i dont see why my gfs golf would be unworthy though, as it is purely cosmetic. everything else works fine... unless dents somehow make a car unroadworthy??? about insurance though, that would be interesting... do they just not cover you if you get a small ding, or what?? or do they just not cover you full stop??? guess i'll be able to ask when it gets assessed, but would also be nice to know in advance...

There was an article in a Melb paper in the last few days talking about this issue; essentially a car that is w/o for purely cosmetic reasons rather than structural still falls foul of the "repairable w/o" rules. ie, when the car is w/o, the insurance co cancels the reg, and the car is entered on the register. To get it off the register, it has to be repaired, roadworthied including structural certificate, then can be re-registered. The car is now pristine in appearance, but is not pristine due to it having been on the register, a history that is not expunged. The register does not list what the damage was. Car dealers pay 50% or less of what the car would normally be worth at trade-in time, and there is still the probability of insurance not being able to be purchased.

The above is a compilation of snippets of info from here and there, not first hand experience. I also vaguely recall an article from a WA paper where the police are giving hail damaged vehicles a canary even though they are still technically sound.

If it had of been my car in the hail both me and the insurance company would be crying for what I have agreed value at with them in my policy. Luckily I banned all movement outdoors during that weekend.

Jackaroo goes in on 16th April, and the GTI on 22nd April. Just as well I got them assessed early, or it would be much later. Can't bring myself to wash the GTI - it's looking a bit grungy......when it's clean the dents show up more.
