Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Fitting RNS510 Satnav with Climatronic

Picked my Ex Demo Pacific 2.0TDI up from the dealer yesterday, had a good play with the computer and options, fun car to play with, like the secret menu in the climatronic very much, was happy after a return trip over night to Horsham to return 6L/100 even with some spirited driving at times, was even more happy to pull up to the bowser tonight to see diesel cheaper than unleaded.

Now to the subject of my post......

I am looking at picking up a RNS510 unit and will need some help getting it properly connected so will need to get access to someone with a VAGCOM, anyone know of any workshops in the Seaford, Melbourne area with one?

    Help appreciated.

Make sure you get a late model RNS. I don't think the earlier ones will handle the climate control.

Thanks for that, any ideas on how to identify late model units, do they have different model numbers?

since someone brought up the issue about RNS, i'm shopping around for my relatives (they drive a MK5 GTI 06 like I do) and want to upgrade from their standard stereo to the RNS510.

        Found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....ht_2599wt_1165

What do you think? I got all mine fitted at the dealership, so don't know about aftermarket installations of RNS510s...

If I was to purchase this off the net, was going to take it to Mona Vale European Autotech to get it fitted...

any suggestions or help would be appreciated

I guess pricing will be a factor, but...I bought mine from Harding Performance and had it fitted by Volkspower. Both were great to deal with. Price was probably about $1000 more than the cheapest price from ebay.

First unit installed was never saw any satellites. Quickly replaced with another. Two years down the road, and the unit started having some issues and eventually failed. Without any comment, Volkspower replaced that unit. That was probably better support than I would have gotten from a dealer if it had come through them.

Those extra $ I paid at the start proved to be very good insurance, and the support I was given was outstanding.
