R32 6M or DSG

I have a white 07 Passat 3.2 AWD DSG which is a great car. I have had lots of VW's in the past and I am a VW lover. I have had my heart set on an R32 for a while now and want to get one for our 2nd car. I want to buy a low Km used one and at the moment, one has come up in the colour and accessories I want in Australia. However it is a 6M.

I like the DSG in the Passat and it works really good. I don't mind manual transmissions and most of our cars in the past have been them. I don't know if it is me getting older (46yrs) but I like the DSG and it would be great to get one in the R32 but it is waiting for the colour and specs I want to be available. The R20 suppose to come into Aust in July 10 so a few more MkV R32's may come on line for sale then.

Mmmmm what should I do????? Go back to being a manual boy racer or an older sophisticated DSG driver. It would be nice to here from some R32 owners on their 6M.

That would be nice but I have to fly 1000km to have a look at a 2nd hand R32 6m and it is the only one available in colour and specs I can find. I have a DSG 3.2 Passat so I have driven one. What I want is feed back from R32 owners DSG and 6M.

I drove the DSG Mk5 GTI and 6sp manual R32 when I was considering buying an R32. The manual gearbox was nice, but ultimately the ability to take control when I want or let the computer control gearshifts when I can't be arsed was a nice benefit of the DSG, and was the way I was leaning at the time.

I drove a few DSG GTI's and ended up buying a 6psd man, mostly because of the same reasons you mentioned the price, colour combo was right etc. Ive had the a car a little over a week now and admitly my daily commute through heavy sydney traffic is annoying with a clutch, it doesnt help that the 6spd man has a fairly short first gear and notchy changes. However any driving thats not in city traffic is fun and probably more rewarding then a DSG, if your not doing any traffic driving then a 6spd Man would be the better option. For me I was fairly restricted by price but if price wasnt an issue then I would have waited for a dsg equipped car to come along.

so i went the DSG option. there is the occassional regret as it doesnt match the engagement of a manual gearbox, but as i was doing 12km's on the tulla freeway this morning i was glad i got the DSG.

also finally had a romp up to Baw Baw on the weekend and the DSG was impressive through the maintains.

as you have the DSG you know what to expact. the manual i expect will be nice also, so just depends if you want a clutch to constantly play with

That is my dilemma. I really love the DSG and would probably get one if I could source the car with the specs/colour I want, but at this stage, there is none available (candy white/low Km/sunroof/late build). Living in Newcastle I am blessed with no traffic jams like Sydney and Melbourne so a 6M would be no problems for me.

ah candy white!!! that is my unicorn. a mythical creature, rarely seen except in peripheral glances (so ur not really sure you've seen it) and desired for its beauty.
i would have loved the CW specifically in 3dr, but alas my unicorn was not to be. so rare so rare... that being said im happy with the blue as its the only golf model in that colour, so when you see it you know its an R32!

at the end of the day if you specically want CW/low Km's/sunroof and you can find one for sale then i would take it however it comes and be happy that you have captured the mythical beast...

Ah, the White R32, a mythical creature they are indeed.

If u find one then buy it regardless of gearbox as has already been said they are very very very rare.

Even my mate that works at VW has only seen 1 or 2 of them in his 7 years there.

If you're not in traffic then don't really need DSG, but if you do I'd suggest extended warranty with all the mechatronic issues people are having.

It's a hard choice though and woul be good to have one of each. I had a 6mt r32 and a shirt shifter makes it better as well. I'm the sort of person that wants te opposite to what I have sometimes but didn't have any big regrets but DSG seems like flavor of the month still.

When we were buying I test drove GTI and R32 in both manual and DSG. In the R32, it was a very easy decision to go with the DSG, and 3 years later I'm still glad that I did. I'd probably have gone with the manual in a GTI though.

As for DSG issues, I think they're really a very low %. Certainly at 50,000 km, mine's as smooth as it ever was.

Yeah DSG is quite suited to the R32 and next time i'm doing to get DSG as I'm getting a bit lazy (but want something the missus can drive to pick me up from the pub).

yeah im pretty sure that one was for sale a few weeks ago on carsales. if that was around when i was looking (december 09) then it would be in my garage now..
