well it really depends... in my opinion i take 5k off for demo... but as i have also looked at a few demos, but not a pirelli... and most dealers don't want to go down much, as even the mk5 gti is still popular, they have alot of enquires, therefore they don't have to sell it to you.

and most people reckon you lose around 8-10k for the first year, with around 15000km on it... but once again the golf gti's don't seem to depreciate much, as it is very popular.

anyways, where is this silver demo for 49k? its not on carsales??

      Highway VW in QLD.

There will undoubtably be a few come up shortly as those people who are on a 2 year lease will be due to move.

Might be worth waiting for a good s/h one.

well yeah... i'm quite happy with the one i'm looking at... as mentioned before $39k, 8000km, 3 doors (which i prefer), sat nav and parking censors... which i'm happy with. The only thing is i would prefer a black one, but from looking at the market, the one i'm looking at, seem to be a very good deal.

What i'm not quite happy about is the trade in value... well not sure exactly how much yet... my car is a mazda... the dealer is a mazda dealer... i would presume my car would be worth slightly more than lets say trading it in to a vw dealer... but i think they are trying to lowball me with the trade in price.

Over the phone they said $25000 max for my car and $39000... so a turnover of $14000... when i go tomorrow, i'm hoping to get it somewhere around the $13000 mark...

It's still too expensive it's already registered with over 3,000 km (maybe more). Just have to remember people were getting the same thing brand new for 46k. So i wouldn't pay more than early 40's.

But worth a go if you really want one.

You will do better than that, they have heaps of room to move yet!! The phone quote would be conservative and they have heaps of margin in the VW.

You're not wrong. I think its overpriced as well.

If I were in your position I would offer $40k. He may get upset but you won't lose anything. He also then knows there's someone out there willing to pay $40k so if he doesn't get any interest at his current price, he'll think of you when he comes to lower it.

No need to be annoying about it - just let him know that compared to the rest of the market, it seems a bit overpirced and beyond your budget. Then just keep your eye out for a better one, or wait for him to get back to you

sensors I think you mean, not much need for censoring on the rear bumper.

Sites like www.redbook.com.au will give you an idea of your car's value.

They can give you a higher value for your car but they won't discount the other car, as you note below what matters is the changeover cost.

I suspect you mean changeover unless you're sleeping with the dealer for a better price

Something that you guys are missing is the Pirelli is limited edition, 3,222 were made world wide. 400 were brought to Australia. The reason that they still have a relatively high value is that they are LIMITED EDITION there was no corporate discount. If you aren't willing to spend that little bit more buy a GTI.

The Pirelli was not a built to order, you couldn't just say at the time of purchase, I want a Pirelli with 6MT transmission. All Pirelli's in Australia came with DSG's. Some had SENSORS, some didn't, some had all 3 options (Bi-Xenon, RNS510 & Rear SENSORS).

Especially since you are being so specific, that you want a 5 door, black with all options and only want to pay around $40,000. I don't think you would even be able to get it for that price this time next year!

Given that 3 doors are selling at 40K - some are 2K over and under that price with similar options.

The 5 door had a RRP of some $1500 extra. So in saying that it may be expected that a good price for a 5 doors could be at 42K.

Which is in line with Redbook price plus some extra $$$ on top of that price which is the usual trend.

The scarey thing is if you go to trade it, limited edition or not, they will slaughter you at a dealer. Ive faced that many times before!

i'm not sure if I do, thats the problem... talking to the salesman over the phone, he said they paid 35k for the car, someone traded it in for a mazda cx9... which is believable, consider the car brand new was around 50k with the options on the car.... actually the other guy got ripped or didn't care about money... so give or take the dealer should make some money... so the 39k is not a problem... but considering it is a mazda dealer, and i have a mazda to trade in, my car's value is around 31k at most dealers with similar kms, so i would think that i could get more... but i'm also not sure if it is because it is ACT, and the market is much smaller/competitive, therefore they can't sell for such a high price...

don't know what i was typing, used all the wrong words.

Yes the changeover price is what i'm worried about... i can afford $14000, but i don't want to pay $14000, i don't know how far i can negotiate, as the car is 3 hours away (6 hours return), i'm not sure if it is worth it bargaining and going away hoping they would call me back.

Most VW dealers have given me around 25k as the trade in, i just thought as it is a mazda dealer, i might be able to do better.

that is true... the pirelli is a limited edition, but whatever car it is, once it hits the road, the price drops, even though the golf gti's doesn't depreciate that much due to the demand. But people asked 42-46k when they paid 50k a year ago is really dreaming.

I disagree, given my experience a few weeks ago. Of course, part of the appeal is that they are a special edition and will hopefully hold their value well. However, the point is that the majority of Pirellis for sale online seem to be in the low 40s, and potentially "bargainable" to just under 40 in the right circumstances. This makes a $46k example look over-priced in comparison. I think that's fair enough.

I think maybe for a bone stock Pirelli with maybe just sensors $40,000 seems reasonable, but not for a fully optioned one with less than 10,000km.

I got mine for 43k new, so he is way off the mark have you called the dealers?
are there any still in stock somewhere?

The one i'm looking at is 3 doors (rrp $47,490) 8000km... sat nav and parking sensors just like that one without the xenons... and it is going for $39000 (including registration and green slip) so thats $7k cheaper.
                                Den525,

I bought a Pirelli almost 1 year ago to the day and the on road retail price for a five door with Sat nav & Park was $57,800.00 in NSW. Keep in mind that on road costs vary from state to state. A fully optioned one with xenons was $59,700. And just to clarify I did not pay this price for mine but I certainly didn't get it for 46k.

dcashion, you are after a particular car in a particular colour of which there is currently only one available. Unless you are willing to wait for another one to appear make an offer and see what the seller says. I agree with Deancorp in that this is not a standard GTI and as much as cars de-value over time there is also a factor called supply & demand. The other 4 Pirelli's that I see available are 3 door in which case there is supply and people have a choice. I know there is a lot of talk on these forums regarding pricing of vehicles but sometimes I just think some people are in dreamland (and that includes both buyers & sellers).
