Just got back from a two week run from Melbourne, to Brisbane and back.
We took the scenic route and went from Melbourne to Albury, then Thredbo, Canberra, Port Stephens, Coffs Harbour, Ballina then Brissy. Back was direct via Port Macquarie, Albury and then home.
The car was very impressive. I couldn't get over just how well the suspension handled the NSW roads, even with its 18 inch wheels. Tyre noise from the Dunlops on the concrete freeways was pretty loud though. Fuel consumption came in overall at 8.6 lt/100 km, which I figure is quite reasonable for an R32. Even with the silly Australian speed limits, it just ate up the miles, and we were always in good shape at the end of the day (and one drive was just under the 1000 km mark).
Bummers...a couple. We'd gone less than 10 km from home when we picked up a rock dropped from a dump truck on the Melbourne ring road. That left a nice chip on the bonnet, and then bounced onto the windscreen. I'll have to get the Novus guy to look at it next week. And thanks a lot to the arse who was staying in the apartment in Brisbane who opened his door into mine. Thankfully it hit the plastic strip and not the metal, but I'll still have to get it touched up. Next time I park next to a Renault I'll have to return the favour.
Strange things....the RNS510 did a couple of odd things. Just before departure I loaded it with the V2 maps. About 30 km north of Sydney, it spontaneously rebooted. All continued normally until we reached approximately the same spot on the way south, when it did it again. And today, leaving Albury, it lost the screen as soon as the nav had started up. Everything was still working, but you couldn't see anything. It didn't recover after turning off the car, but now that I'm home, I disconnected the battery for a while, and now it's happy again. Perhaps it just didn't like being in NSW, but both were strange, and haven't happened before.
