Sorry but bear with me here.

    I have a 08 GTI manual. Done 42000 kms.

Up until about a week ago not one problem with it .. and I am not sure even if this is a problem.

On coming to a stop and leaving my foot on the clutch with the gear engaged, I will usually get a vibration coming up through my foot. It seems as if something spinning is making contact with something in the gearbox and coming to a halt.

If I do not have it in gear then the problem does not appear to occur. If I take off and come to a stop again (with my foot on the clutch) then the same thing. If I take it out of gear and put my foot on the clucth again .. nothing happens.

So it appears to be when coming to a stop after it has been in gear and leaving my foot on the clutch without disengaging the gear will produce this vibration.

Finally I can engage the clutch a bit without moving and push it back to the floor and I can also get the vibration.

I originally thought it might be my foot shifting slightly on the clutch, however have discounted that due to some rigourous testing of the problem. The vibration is nothing soul wrenching, but is certainly out of the norm.

Any ideas? Sorry about the essay, but thought I should include as much info as possible. By the way there is nothign you can catually "hear" .. it is simply the vibration coming up from the clutch pedal to my foot.

One other thing .. I read somewhere that you can get the sunglass holder replaced under warranty .. as I am going in for my 45K service soon does anyone have a warranty number or similar in case they try to fob me off?

    Thanks

Hey mate, sucks to hear about your issues.

As for the sunglass holder, you should be able to get that changed under warranty. I've heard other things get changed for a lot less (like sunburnt steering wheels), so you shouldn't have a problem.

    Good luck.

Hey macca .. It may not be anything major at all .. but would rather get an idea of what it is prior to taking in than not. If you go in with "oh it makes this noise" They say " Leave it with us for the whole day then" and you get back after leaving it for the day to be told "Oh we couldn't find anything wrong with it!!". Three drop offs later it might actually be found. Had that with knocking in the sunroof. Jacks me off no end!

sunglasses holder replaced under warranty? has it stopped opening and closing properly, hence the need for a replacement.

Or are they replacing the sunglasses holder coz it fails to hold any fashionable sunglasses? hehe

Don't get me started on the size of it. I have a pair of reasonably sized sunglasses and they don't fit! What's the point of having these amazingly stylish cars if our amazing stylish sunglasses won't fit?

OK a little bit more news .. I thought it might be with the drive train or similar as it felt as though it was something rotating to a stop, however have been constantly working it through in my mind, and if I take my foot off the brake then the problem does not happen.

As such this means that the brake appears to be making some sort of vibration when it is depressed that travels through to the clutch when it too is depressed.

Would air in the brake lines cause little vibration noises when the brake is depressed? In any case coming up to 45000 km now will be getting a service and brake fluid bleed is part of that .. so will see how it goes after the service.

When i push my clutch in until it just starts to engage i get a knocking feeling. I thought that was just normal? like engine vibe? or is it.

It seems odd that the brake has an affect on this clutch issue as they are seperate systems in the car?
Try to take a mechanic for a drive on your next service and show them when the issue occurs, just make sure you are in the car with them and they dont just go and drive it without you... which is usually how it goes.

It could also be the DMF (dual mass flywheel) see more in here if that makes any sense to you. http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f26/...tml#post389855

They are two different systems in the car (well I hope so anyway - no mechanic here) but aren't they anchored to the firewall? So what I am saying is that I can feel it with my right foot on the brake, but it definitely can be felt MORE on my left foot which is when the clutch is pressed to the floor. So if I press the brake down I feel it, but it definitely can be felt when the clutch is depressed.

Transporter .. thanks for the link .. however as above I am now feeling confident that the brake being depressed is causing this problem. If I do not press on the brake pedal then I do not get the vibrations in the clutch .. it is only if I press on the brake pedal. BTW I am down in Mitchell Park. If I pump the brake a little I can feel the vibrations through my foot. I was almost thinking that maybe this is soemthing to do with ABS?

This might still be the DMF — when you apply the brakes you are locking the axles up tight, so the movement has nowhere to go.

When the brakes are off the tyres will damp out quite a bit of motion.

Do you still get the vibration with the brakes off and the clutch pressed?
