Extendable sunvisors

Maybe a leftfield suggestion here but could it be that the extendable ones were only fitted on 3 door vehicles due to the extra door & window length?

Either way, there's about 15 cm of gap between the end of the visor and the B pillar even on the 5 door. And for most normally constructed humans, that's just where your head is when you're driving.

As an aside, the best sun visors I've ever seen are on the LandBruiser - they have not only a sliding extension on the sun visor, but also a SECOND visor under the main one, so you can block the sun from the front & the side simultaneously. Damn clever Japanese....

FWIW, my 3 door 11/07 built MY08 compliant does have extendable visors. Never used the feature though.

Back and forth this goes. I finally managed to get my local dealer to acknowledge they have this part, but they wouldn't give me the part number. I wanted to check whether the electrical connections were the same, and they told me to google or check on online forums. Each side, they said, would cost $240aud and once ordered, it was non-refundable.

As it turns out, a friend in Singapore hooked me up their them the day after and they arrived today. When VW Singapore put my chassis # in, they said my Jetta should have come with the extendable sunvisors. They asked if I'd be ripped off. Lol. I'm still trying to find out how much they cost, but she won't tell me and she said she wouldn't be caught dead paying $240aud each.

edit: cost is approx 50% of what you'd pay in australia, from vw singapore. it would be cheaper if one were to go to an agent of vw (as they call it in singapore), or i'm guessing if we were to source it from the wreckers or overseas.

Anyway, I was installing them and the connectors are different. The one on the left is the extendable one from Singapore. The one on the right is the original non-extendable. Inset shows the original being connected. The problems are, it is too long; and the connection is horizontal rather than vertical.

Any suggestions? Otherwise, I might just take it to an auto-electrician and find out how much they charge.

Finally got this mod done after the sunvisors have been sitting around. So, as it turns out.. after mucking around on the right sunvisor (stripping the brown+red wires, stripping the new wires I got with the clips etc), I did the left sunvisor and pulled firmly as there seemed to be more give..and lo' and behold, it pulled all the way out to reveal the clip similar to what's on the left!

So, basically, it was just unplug and plug in the new sunvisor. @$##!#$%$!!! didn't need all that stuffing around with wiring.

What I've learnt: the plastic connectors are tucked in very neatly and tightly, so if you tug it at the wrong spot..you're liable to just pull away the wire instead like I did for the right visor.

At least I won't be pissed with the sun in my peripheral vision anymore.

p.s. I have pics and may post depending on whether anyone else wants to see them... busy at the moment with more mods.

Actually really useful when winding left & right - you don't have to continually swap the visor from front to side and back again.

Used it quite a bit off road. Probably not as big a feature in suburbia where most of them live and roads are dead straight.

still have them as i stripped the car when i wrote it off
was thinking of transferring them to my R but cbf

must be a random thing. Didn't have them on my 2 dr 06 R32 which really needed them but do have them on my 05 4dr gti. go figure.
