Hi, i'm re-posting this as i'm curious if anybody else had this problem.
And what damage (potentially) does it do to the transmission?
Our '05 Golf TDI 1.9 (we are the second owners from 40 000km, 46 000km now. The car lost drive after doing a brisk right hand roundabout and then going straight. The engine flared up like when there is not enough oil in a conventional automatic transmission.
Also lost drive on take off once and was slow to engage starting to reverse up hill.
Transmission had two faults logged. Don't know which as the operator reset them and didn't tell us.
Changed trans oil today (myself) but only two liter drained out and it was quite greyish.
Refilled 5.5 liter and 1 liter drained out after i checked the pan temperature on the sump bowl with an infra red sensor (35 deg. C.)
Any thoughts would be appreciated re. the flaring (like missed gear) and slow reverse engagement as well as loosing drive when taking off from an intersection. The car just 'crawled' through but proceeded as normal once the engine was turned off and restarted
In the meantime i thoroughly test drove the car going through a round about fast enough to induce massive understeer (these cars handle a bit like a shopping trolley) and found no transmission loosing drive/engine flare. So, it was low oil in the DSG. Wonder if the factory under filled or the previous owner had problems and the Dealer 'repaired' it?
I've spoken with the previous owner yesterday and was assured that no work was carried out on the DSG (to her knowledge).
The car was serviced 'by the book' (service records supplied) by big VW dealerships in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne
Cheers, Sepp
