Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Dont think I've ever seen one close to 25K though.

Which makes the GT in a class of it's own.
Thanks for pointing that out Poyta.

Well not really (unless i've misunderstood you), as the 1.4 twin charge came out as a GT & GT Sport...

FWIW - the twin charge engine is a great lil unit. Good luck & hopefully you find what you are after

As usual, I probably put what I wanted to say across badly.

What I meant was that the GT was not a marriage of the GT and Golf Sport like the GT Sport was when VW almagmated the two car models. That and the fact that it was only for sale for less than a year before being replaced by the GTSport makes it rather rare and unique in Australia hence the rather good resale values.

Wasn't the gt sport only on the market for 12 months before IV came in?

I'd be suprised if a similar condition/kms/specced gt could fetch a higher price than a gt sport. Considering the gt sport would be a newer plate.

I thought the whole point of both editions was to expose the 1.4 TSi engine to the Aussie market before the IV arrived (118 and 90).

The TDi version was just a little dust flick in the face- "lookie what we have managed to do with a 2.0 tdi!!"

VW are a bunch of show offs....

            ah i see.

i would tend to agree with marius though and think that a similar spec'd GT Sport would prob have a higher resale due to the more recent plate number...

            just my 2 cents

Yes, I agree about the GT Sports having higher resale values over GTs due to their more recent build. But the difference in price is marginal bet them (speaking of TSIs)

Actually both the GT and GT Sport are holding their values well. I had a hard time finding one with DSG below $29K with low kms from a dealer.

The lowest on sale at that time apart from mine (also a GT) was a demo with 5600kms and manual transmission - $35K. It sold shortly after I bought mine.

They are hard to come by in BM too - UGs and Silver ones must have been pretty popular.

There are any number of contributing factors which dictate the pricing of a used car- not least is supply and demand.

A quick search online for mk v gti's will give you lots of choice. Gt/gt sport there are no more than a half dozen private and couple dealer.

Gti is technically a better car but when they are in a market surrounded by competition - value is slightly leas than if there were only a few.

When there are only 6 or so gt's to choose from- chances are there is only 1 or 2 in the spec (tdi/tsi dsg/6m) you want.

                My 2 cents

                    Congratulations!

                    What color?
                    TSI or TDI?
                    kms?
                    how much?

We should have a GT/GT Sport only GTG.

Is that a demo with very low kays?
Mine with 14500ks was slightly under $30K.

$40K is way above your $25K budget..and for that $40K you could pick up a like new/demo MKV GTI with less than 100kms.
