Process of Buying a new car

G'day all,

Newbie here. I have done some research and decided to buy a golf TDI 2.0L in the united grey. However it seems to be taking ages to go through the processes of buying a new car. It is the first time I have ever bought a brand spanker so I dont really know what the process is. I figured it couldn't be much more difficult than buying a second hand car...or am I dreaming? The other porblem is that it will be purchased under my name but through my work as a novated lease. Should this slow things down? Any feed back on the process of purchasing a new car would be appreciated. Thanks. BTW its taken about 5 1/2 months to date, and still haven't signed anything.

Welcome, Kent! Excellent choice of car, you won't be disappointed. I had no problems ordering mine...just rocked up to the stealer signed up and a couple of weeks later I had the car . The lease arrangement shouldn't hinder the process at all. My TDI is owned by the business and apart form my designated private use is totally tax deductible.

Thanks for the welcome and reply Brakie, kinda thought it couldn't be to hard. And if this was typical, dealers would be going out of business. Must be my work not pulling their finger out. Just wanted some comfirmation that it's not that hard. Also as it isn't that hard I can't imagine that there would be much work involved for my CFO either. Thanks again. I am very much loking forward to the new car. Got a little tempted by the Mazda 6 Diesel though, but thought I'd stay with a smaller car.

surely it can't have taken 5 months without even siging a contract!!!

if you are doing a novated lease then you have two options usually - either you find the car (sign a contract and put deposit on it maybe with the dealer) or the leasing company will get the car for you. either way all you need to do is engage a dealer or leasing company and sign a contract - once you do that the ball is rolling

for novated lease once the paper work is together your employer finance people will sign the paperwork and it is a done deal

That's a crazy amount of time. Someone is not pulling their weight. My finance company did ALL of the legwork for me. All I needed to do was sign papers and fork over some dosh $$. Didn't take more than a week once they began. This doesn't include the few months I had to wait for the car to get into the country from the time I ordered it. The ordering of the car is of course entirely seperate from the finance company doing their thing once it arrives at the dealer. That bit sould be quick.

Something wrong there. If I go ahead with the car it will also be a work related novated lease. I emailed the leasing company for a quote, and it came back within 3 days. If I want a car off the dealers floor, then I can have it with an elapsed time of about 10 days.

Finally

Thanks guys. I did some kicking and screaming and finally on Wednesday before easter I picked it up. It didn't take long once the ball got rolling as you all said. Just needed to let my people know that things where getting rediculous and they jumped into action. Having got past all that I'm now totally wrapped in my decision. I look for any excuse to go for a drive because I just love being in it. I'm going to start a new thread on the running in process I'm using and see what everyone has to say about it.
