NM limits on the manual box?

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to the torque limits the manual box can handle, specifically for the TDI. I'd assume the GTI and TDI boxes are similarily strong, perhaps the TDI is beefed up a bit. I'd also assume it's the dual mass fly that's going to be the weak link here, but any ideas would be much appreciated.

I'd guess what people can run through a GTI box would be "about" what the TDI box could handle, as a rough guide.

Once you change the diff to an lsd you shouldnt have any issues .
My mk3 is going to run a mk5 gti style gearbox

sure itll be fine with anything the TDI could throw at it.. its only an open wheeled front wheel drive, and even then the clutch would give out first. Theres plenty of GTI's around that would have well over 400nm of torque

Just transversely mount a Road Ranger 18 speed and you shouldn't have any dramas!!

Power at the wheels may drop slightly. And your shift speeds will increase. Other than that i can't really see the downside....

Yeah, but think about the starts you could get out of the lowest range, and not to mention the almost unlimited power handling capability of 3 countershafts!!

It already fels like driving a truck with all the cog swapping with just 6 speeds mate, but hey, thanks for the idea you goose.

We'll see Chris, but I'm thinking well over 500nm is possible, hence my concern.
