  • Golf Mv 5 TDI Pacific GPS Retrofit

    Hi Guys,

Looking at retrofitting a GPS/Radio to the current Golf. My partners Fiesta has Bluetooth, voice Control and Ipod integration all built in. Looking to get this on my current car. Is there a unit that would replace the standard single disc radio on my car that would cover all these options? Obviously should have ordered the car with this stuff as standard, but couldnt justify the extra expense. Is there an Aftermarket Unit, or can you just get VW to factory fit one.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I wouldn't touch most of the aftermarket units as they all seem to have a few bugs. I have already experienced this and have since purchased an RNS510 which is the top of the range of OEM ( you can find more info the RNS510 functions and capabilities here) http://www.conti-online.com/generato...n;tabNr=2.html. I purchased mine from eBay from a seller in Lithuania (NAVI555) excellent service and price and the unit arrived safely, well packaged and in excellent working order. (cost around AUD$1,100 delivered to the door). My son fitted another VW unit to his Comfortline and had additional bluetooth and ipod connected as well, it all worked well together although the vioce control wasn't an option on the sat/nav unit he installed. Voice control is available on the RNS510, I'm not 100% certain how it's done but the information should be available on the forum.
This link http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...etooth+options should give you an idea on the cost of the compatible bluetooth and ipod connection options which will work with the RNS510 and other units, the whole installation process can be easily done by any capable auto electrician (preferably one who knows VW dashboards) it shouldn't take them any longer than a couple of hours at most to install. Hopefully this info should give you a head start on the process anyway

    Cheers

Hello l have got an AVC9000-1 - MK 5 version from rob at auspack
and it works really well , and he is in Melbourne , bluetooth,tv, mfd controls work, reverse camera , and you can update your gps maps on an sd card instead of paying vw $900.00 for there dvd everytime. l know maps are dear but thats a little to pricey for most of us.

The RNS 510 is not a cheap unit by any means. I purchased mine through Harding Performance, and it was installed by Volkspower. I was very reluctant to buy something like this from ebay, and I my caution paid off, as the initial unit had some problems, and it was simply replaced by Guy.

He also provided the Skoda bluetooth that has recently been installed. This works a treat with the RNS, and really shows up the systems that VAG are trying to sell.

The overall system (on an R32 with Dynaudio) is superb. We're about to order a new Tiguan, and this time I'll order the 510 with the car (it wasn't available when I ordered the 32), but the car will still need to visit Harding/Volkspower for the bluetooth....and that will likely happen on delivery day.

I was a bit wary also of buying the unit from o/seas, it is a risk but it's certainly a better option IMHO than paying $600 - $700 out on an RNS look a like which will probably be no where near as good or as functional or reliable as a slightly used OEM one. Just my .02 c worth anyway.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Rob had closed his business due to ill health. I sent him an email some weeks ago to get a firm price on the AVC9000-1 and got no response, which makes me wonder if the rumor is true?
