Why give you something for free if they can bite you for it! $$$$

In any case can the disc be copied?,

Yes you can make "backup" copies of the media so you can store your spare away from your house

Correct. Buying a car with an RNS510 comes with a set of maps, and that comes with the DVD. If they don't give it to you ask to speak to the dealer principal. VW Australia have confirmed to me that dealers get a disk with each rns510 equipped car.

And there is no "update disc". The rns510 takes only one disc. Currently it is at version 2. $1200 to $1400 dependent on dealer.

As has been commented, at $500 it's either the wrong one or it's not one that has been obtained in the normal way. And yes it is an horrific ripoff.
