My horn's gone all Polo on me

The horns* on the GTI are awesome and better than those on the EFII Fairmont Ghia I used to have. The standard Falcons (at least in the EF/EL series) were rubbish as they had the one horn where as the Fairmont/Fairmont Ghia/XR's picked up two decent horns.

Are you talking about the BA-> Falcons?

I'm really tempted to add this as a third horn to the car. 139db should be a good addition to the car

Exactly, I don't know what to do with it. I use mine regularly as well but I just can't when it's like this. Not only does it sound retarded, but no one can hear it either! My guess is that the GTI and Jetta horns are the same, even if they aren't, they have a similar set up.

It's not worth going to VW about IMO, but I wish it'd just hurry up and fix itself

I think yelling out the window would be as effective as that useless hi pitched horn! I'll check the part numbers later and see if they're the same for the GTI and Jetta. I'm pretty sure the standard Golfs just have a single horn.

They have a 300Hz 12v truck horn as well which would be good but it might induce rattles

I have to get a door lock replaced next week so I'll see if they can get a horn in for me. I think adding a third horn will be the way to go as well. The Stebel is designed for 50,000 horn operations so I should get a year out of it

Ok cool well let me know what the outcome is, I can't determine whether the it's the physical horn or if it's to do with the wiring etc.

But when I get back, I might look into swapping the horn out of my bro's VYII SS ute, that thing's hectic!

Volkswagen used to use Stebel horns up until the 1/10/2006 when 1K0 951 221 and 1K0 951 223 were replaced with Bosch 1K0 951 221 A and 1K0 951 223 A. The Bosch horns were upgraded on the 1/9/2008 to 1K0 951 221 B and 1K0 951 223 B.

The 1K0 951 221 is a low tone and 1K0 951 223 is a high tone. I'll do some testing later to see where the problem lies.

LOL it's true we do have Polo horns!!!!

The Polo comes with one high tone horn stock. It's a 6Q0 951 223 G (G stands for GIRL according to the notes)

Some models come with dual horns, that must be part of the man pack

I should have my new horn fitted on Wednesday, the dealer ordered the new horn for me this afternoon!

I just tested my horns tonight to make sure it was the horn and it's definitely failed. The horns are mounted to the side of the fog lights with the drivers side horn being the low tone (400Hz) horn.

No more "happy" horn after Wednesday!
