Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 19" Omanyt wheels on an Mk5 Golf?

The tyres on my GT TDi will need replacing soon so rather than buy new tyres I was thinking of getting a wheel and tyre package and going up a size or two.

I love the Omanyt style wheels that are fitted to the R series of VW's and I can see that places like Tempe Tyres and Wheelworx sells something like it ( I presume its a replica ) in 18" and 19". I'd love the 19's but they seem to only come in 8.5" width which I believe would be too wide and would rub.

Can anyone advise where I can get these in 19x8 as a package with tyres or will the 8.5" width be ok?

I'm still stock height but will lower it about 30mm in the future.

www.mswt.com.au had those in 18 and 19 in 8 and 8.5 a few months back. They are not shown on the web page, you have to ask.
    Tempe http://www.tempetyres.com.au/product...n+Wheel+Wizard has them shown in 18 x 8

      Have a look under Audi:

      19 x 8.5 should be the same...

Nice couple of sites, Baz - good find!

PS have a look here too:

You realise that this is an american site. So that $489 is more like $530 Au and then you need to add the shipping to Australia which could be very very high. Then you need to add Tyres. You can get those RS4 Reps from Tempe for around $1400 with tyres.

Interesting thread Poy, I'm into illegal CS2 territory myself at 45k's, and as such some new rubber is imminent. Given the 1000 ish price tag of anything half decent on stock rims, you do start to wonder what you could buy secondhand or even new for not much more.

Any R32 lads want to sell their stock wheels to Poy, and anyone else with 18s feel free to let me know as I have a lazy grand odd to spend...

              Mebbe not...
"Shipping to Australia via FedEx is $250 for a set of wheels." (eMail enquiry)
              $489 + $250 = $739 = AU$804 (no import duty under $1K)
You'd be struggling to get a 2nd hand set of rims for $1000...
              Then BYO rubber.

Oh, PS they include a free set of 20 chrome wheel nuts too.

Plus carting around, plus fitting, plus balancing, plus disposal of old tyes.
Sometimes its just easier to just go to a local place, help the local chap earn a wage and drive home with a smile on your face.

Well I don't seem to be able to find these in a 19x8, everyone stocks the 19's as only an 8.5 width. Anyone know if these will fit without scrubbing?

I'd just try and swipe a pair of 18" from an R32 member (check Golfmkv.com), usually sell for around $1000 a set, could be another option as the 19" version is heavier (i assume) and more expensive for the wheels and rubber.

There's not that much work in, you make it sounds so dramatic.

You'd leave the rubber on the old rims and sell them as a complete set.

New rubber can be picked up from tirerack at a 50% saving from local prices AFTER shipping.

And why buy cheap rubbish rims with cheap rubbish tyres from a place like tempe tyres when for an extra 20-30% you can import quality wheels and quality tyres.

I have been quoted shipping from various American sites for wheels, including ECS and Raderwerks, and the shipping prices vary between $300 and $500. Not too bad considering...

Thats true, and i'm sure local tyre shops would dispose of the old tyres anyway for the standard fee (not much) if you get some new tyres fitted (whether you buy them there or not).
