60,000KM Service Mk V 2.0 Diesel DSG

Hi Guys,

Getting 60K service done.. Have been qouted $1100 for this service from Ballarat Autohaus. This is an 08 2.0 Diesel With DSG. I know its a major service, does that pricing sound about right? Alternatively if there are cheaper options for this service, does anyone know of a VW servicer in the Western region of country victoria?

I just had a 45K service done and the Service Advisor let me know that the next one (60K) will be around $1200.

I think you are best finding an independent VW mechanic and see what they will charge to do the job. From my knowledge it is labour that will be the costly part.

Ouch. That's pretty steep for a service that takes all of 2hrs.

What work are they doing based on that quote?

The 60k one is a big one which involves among other things a DSG flush.

the oil is like $50 per litre and you need 5 litres.
then there is the replacing of a lot of filters as well

Thats correct it is a big service, every filter gets done and the DSG gets serviced, transmission service is the costly part but not to the tune of $1200 shop around mate, dealers up here in QLd quote the same so if you are drawn to go to the dealer thats what you will pay, shop around for an independent.
While we are talking service the next 60K is the 120K of course and thats timing belt time along with the DSG. VW supplies a Timing belt kit which doesnt include a Water pump, the pump is very accessable when all the belt area is stripped down, and for the extra bit of labour and coolant its a no brainer to get it done, i know of a place that doesnt do the pump if it isnt leaking????? thats not the main reason we change this pump, its the ageing impellar thats the real drama and yes along with leaks.

I wont replace the water pump unless there is any obvious signs of fatigue.

I'll have to double-check on the DSG oil. I don't think it's changed every 60K. I recall speaking to VW Technical about an adaptor for the inspection plug on these transmissions, and they mentioned it was fill for life. Go fgure. I'll look into it on Monday.

Just a random thought.. Do all vw services automatically includes DSG service every 60,000 km?? Coz i've bought my used car at 67,000kms, the salesmen pointed out that DSG has been serviced, but there were no prove of it in any form.

Service costs

Hi all,

A little off the topic here but....I guess that with dealers charging those sorts of figures (whether they are justified or not) the issue will be for those of us in the second hand market to ensure that when we are looking at cars, we take extra time to check and double check the service history of the vehicle we are looking at.

I think in the years to come there will be a lot of vehicles around where the owners (obviously no one in this forum ) have said "it seems to be running ok so I won't worry with that expensive DSG service"

I am a maintenance consultant and I hear it ALL the time.....

yep. I had to basically force a VW service center(wont name who) to do my DSG service. They were convinced it was a lifetime sealed unit and came back to me the next day with their tails between their legs by which time I had gone to someone who knew what they were doing.

Uh huh. VW told me the same thing, so I'm calling them tomorrow, to find out for sure.

If it was done at a VW service ctr they should be able to pull the history and re-print the statements - that should prove it.

as far as i know, the DSG DOES require a service every 60k km.
i had my 120k one done not that long ago.

i bought the car S/H and i couldn't find receipts of a 60k service, so i wasn't taking any chances with the 120K one.

needless to say, it was not serviced by a VW dealer.

I have to ask how do you check the impellar without removing the pump???? Impossible. DSG is every 60k , its in the VW service table, why would it be a fill for life with a cartridge oil filter????? the 02E DSG unit is a serviceable unit, other "Auto" trans in the range are supposed to be fill for life, scary thought.
