Nuther thing to consider is the DSG7 has a lower 1st gear ratio than the DSG6. This might be working against it at the other end invoking the transition to 2nd sooner that would be the case in the DSG6. So by fixing one issue they may have exacerbated another. On the other hand the method I explained is simply a technique. I tend to only use it when sitting in bumper to bumper walking pace traffic if at all.

No auto transmission can't cover all driving conditions, not even the clever DSG. That's why there is a manual mode. Nothing wrong with using it if it makes for a more comfortable drive.

I find driving in traffic that S mode works the best as it holds gears and will provide engine braking etc.
Other than that S mode is just too manic, if I'm going for a 'spirited' drive Manual mode is much better (for me anyway).
I do think though that D should be called E, for economy. For normal day to day driving somewhere between D & S (closer to D)would be perfect for my style.

I think it should also have a W mode for use by the wife, that way the fuzzy logic of the DSG caters for her style or driving while D & S caters for mine!

had the mechatronics unit replaced yesterday.
The drive home was certainly different to it usually is. much smoother on take off and smoother gear changes in general.
Wife has it in the city today and tomorrow so will see what she thinks of it with all the stop start traffic.
