What sort of car are you running? I guess I shouldn't be too ashamed of 14.1sec.

I drove all the way down tonight, but it got called off due to rain... bugger.

You should definately try a "Fast Friday" rather than the Wednesday as the track is prepared and sprayed on Friday's, where it is'nt on Wednesday's. You'll get much better grip!

Yeah, I wouldn't be too phased. I have a bone stock 08 GTI with DSG. It ran just on the factory spec, which was all i was expecting. It seems as though the slow times are to do with getting the power down, right? I deflated my front tires slightly, can't remember the exact PSI. My mate who came down with me for the night had his Focus ST. His best run was around 14.4. He had the Dream Science chip which pushed the car out to 200+kw and 400+nm torque. He went there expecting mid to high 13s runs. He couldn't even get close. I got bored after running similar times, one after the other - Hail to the power of Robogears (DSG)

A former member of this forum (and temporary golf GT diesel owner) had a Focus XR5 with dream science chip, and despite many attempts to do a 13sec pass could only get it down to 14.001 at Kwinana.

I remember him (DZL-GT) He ended up selling his GT to go back to the focus. He came along to an XR5 cruise, I had trouble keeping up with his GT - that thing was very quick.

He wanted to confirm so got in touch with motorplex. More below...

My 1/4 mile times on the night of Wednesday 17th of December 2008
I called up motorplex and asked them to check their database. unfortunately i was told they cant reprint the time slips but they have all the data stored in excel spread sheets on their computers.

my car, a white 2008 VW Golf GTI with the rego ###### with the race number T133 did 4 runs that night.

the only mods on the car were Bluefin and Neuspeed intake. i was running stock 17s with Conti CS2's

the times and terminal speeds were as follows...


1) time: 14.054sec @ 98.36mph

2) time: 14.252sec @ 98.57mph

3) time: 13.955sec @ 98.9mph

4) time: 14.620sec @ 97.19mph

My first run was my best, but the rest of the night, i posted around the high 14's. MZZ's time of sub 14 is hardly credible. No time slip and the vid on youtube magically cuts out before you can see the time posted on the board....

Well I didn't end up going last week due to the bad weather (expected it was gonna get cancelled anyway even though they hadn't said that on their website) ... nor tonight.

I suppose I should be pretty happy with 14.3 from the last time I was down there, since i have 0.2 L less than you lot!! and it was damn hot that night too- back when we had daylight savings trials one year, 30+ on the track

Bit more practice and I might break 14 too...

I'm a little curious how driving a car, up to the advertised redline can void a warranty?

if the manufacturer feels this would damage the car and hence void the warraty, then the cutout should be set a lot lower?

Nissan have been in quite a lot of trouble lately, by advertising their new GTR as capable of certain things, but then stating that by doing it, you void the warranty.

Nissan have been in quite a lot of trouble lately, by advertising their new GTR as capable of certain things, but then stating that by doing it, you void the warranty.

my mechanic told me that one of the guys here did the 1/4 run and later on had some issue he had to get warranty work done. But when he went to get it done, VW said they have pictures of him at the track and voided his warranty. There were apparently VW representatives in the spectator section noting down VW cars which is what Suburu does as well.
He did fight back and got some of his warranty back but best bet is to cover the plates before entering because insurance companies sometimes stand at the gate and take photos of the cars going in.

manual that warranty could be voided by taking your car down the quarter
mile or doing the occasional track day.

I'm thinking they would have one hell of a fight on their hands.

Why build a performance car if using that performance voids warranty?

agreed Kryten. i think that the manufacturer would need to demonstrate that when doing the 1/4m, you actually went outside the marketed design parameters.

If a manufactuer advertises for example a 0-100kph time, then i can pretty well guarantee you'd need to flog the car (and clutch) to achieve that time.

i suspect that VW reps at the drags are probably just taking advantage of individuals who don't know their rights, and arent willing to put up a good argument

Is it confirmed that's actually happening?

If it were, all it would do is drive a wedge between enthusiasts and VW.

Not exactly a good word to have put out there, that a manufacturer is difficult on their warranty claim process....

I've heard of this happening in the US, but I've certainly not heard of it happening here.....

its written in most warranties that if the product is used for racing then youre on your own.

Has anyone read the VW warranty to see what it says?

Gee Gareth I thought you owning a Ford would have been well aware of this, Ford has been voiding warranties for quarters since before the BA. Many a repoprt of it on the Ford forums I used to frequent, people busted taking pics of rego's and windscreen VINs!

Most any car is voided if used in "competition" and that my friends includes quarter miles on drag strips. It's very much in favour of the manufacturer if they choose to enforce it and have proof. Guess it depends on the item being warrantied and the cost!
