A friend of mine drags often and say's Friday is better as the track is freshly sprayed. He say's that Wed night's track conditions are worse for grip.

Time for me to bare my shame. I posted a 14.688 early in the night and couldn't beat it. It's the first time I'd been down to the drags. Because of the DSG lag, I gave up on trying to get a good reaction time and just tried different things to get the traction down. My first run was my best, but the rest of the night, i posted around the high 14's. MZZ's time of sub 14 is hardly credible. No time slip and the vid on youtube magically cuts out before you can see the time posted on the board....

Anyone see the 400m time posted by APR's monster in Motor's tuner shootout? 13.81

What sort of car are you running? I guess I shouldn't be too ashamed of 14.1sec.

I drove all the way down tonight, but it got called off due to rain... bugger.

If I wasn't there myself I'd probably think the same thing.

I can only speak for my car - and that was it - it takes a lot to learn how to launch a stage 3 GTI - Oh & Motor use a Race Logic Data Box for their 0-400m reading which by nature will be a few tenths slower than a drag strip (they say that when you cross the light beams, you are already moving - with the GPS device you are not moving).

Here is same car, same spec as tested by motor (after 5 warm up runs, all in the low 13's) - the secret (as mentioned by the DSG boys) is as soon as you hear wheelspin - shift up!

So whats this tip about shifting when you spin? I might have to try it next time I head out to willowbank.....

If (a big IF) you can hear / feel the wheelspin, just shift to second, same for third - lots of practice - from what I have seen it's probably harder in the DSG from 1st to 2nd thats for sure.

It helps to be staged next to a nice 4cyl quiet car so you can hear your own engine instead of some 7000 db V8 blown noise maker!

                            Hey Kryten,

Yeah, I wouldn't be too phased. I have a bone stock 08 GTI with DSG. It ran just on the factory spec, which was all i was expecting. It seems as though the slow times are to do with getting the power down, right? I deflated my front tires slightly, can't remember the exact PSI. My mate who came down with me for the night had his Focus ST. His best run was around 14.4. He had the Dream Science chip which pushed the car out to 200+kw and 400+nm torque. He went there expecting mid to high 13s runs. He couldn't even get close. I got bored after running similar times, one after the other - Hail to the power of Robogears (DSG)

I stand corrected - Certainly a surprise. Clearly, when his car isn't broken, it's fast.

Also - I spotted you again in South Perth - Did you keep your GT? The Pirelli looks incredible.
