plenty of trial and error I reckon - you definitely got short changed on the two-runs thing!

I need to calm the nerves and be more analytical about what I'm doing... Certainly shifting at 5-6,000 rpm rather than waiting for redline would help too....

Your trap speed is good shows the car is making pretty good power, but I wouldve expected a bit more with the claimed 200kw + atw?
What was your 60ft time? A half decent launch in a GTI should be round the 2.1 2.2 mark.. DSG should be easy I wouldve thought, Launching the manual is a total pain in the ass.

What RPM were you launching at? if you still had stock tyre pressures I wouldn't be launching anything past 2k rpm to be honest, the wheel spin will just slow you down. You trapped a pretty good 104, you definately can get into the 13.7-8 if you had a better launchMKV GTI Pirelli

I just tried your tip out on a full launch with LC on and TC off, and as soon as the engine started spooling up an the huge wheelspin started, I just dropped it into second...
Just the tiniest bit of wheelspin and it was on its way under boost..... Far far better launch and it didn't bog down or spin one bit..
I guess I'm going back again next Wednesday!Last edited by kryten2001; 15-10-2009, 09:35 PM.

I stand corrected.... Times were:
ET - 14.197
Terminal Speed - 104.04mph
Reaction Time - 0.687
60' - 2.552
330' - 6.375
660' - 9.414
660' Speed - 132.40 kmh
1000' - 12.017
Ambient Temp - 15.7 degrees c
Track Temp - 21.9 degrees c
Humidity - 64%
After a few launches tonight using GeorgeS3's technique, I'd be quite upset not be able to shave at least 0.3 - 0.5 seconds off that time.
Next Wednesday night it shall be I guess...
Any tips on how much pressure to let out of the tyres for better grip?.. 20psi sound about right? (too soft?).. I was running it street pressure (34psi if I recall....).. And only take air out the fronts I'm assuming? (less drag on the non driving wheels?)

I think I remember Bug Racer sayin to wind up the rebound on your fronts (help keep the wheels on the ground?) Id say 26 27 round that in the fronts..
and yes you should be upset.. Tarmac tested a stock pirelli 14.1 @ 163km/h
good luck

The shifting from 1st to second as soon as the wheels start to spin will make a big difference I'm sure... Now I'll be moving forward rather than spinning and bouncing up + down......

24psi in the fronts 40psi in the back
1/4 tank of fuel
and watch the tacho , I know on the street you can hear the engine but its important to keep an eye on the tacho when manual shifting .
As for the end . Its 400m then 400m(might be 600 cant remember , dont know if they include sandtrap or not) to brake . I think you may have left it a little lateBug_racer supports the rebellion of the euro revolution

Almost went off the end on the second run.. Those brembos had to pull me up from about 200km/h pretty damn quick.

Too bad for him, looked like it was ready to pull a high 19 for sure.
Anyway I screwed it up pretty bad (never been down the strip before) and had huge wheelspin on my first run, and bad bogging down on the second.
Ran 14.1 @ 168km/h (104.04mph).
Pretty crap quarter time, but the terminal speed wasn't too bad.
I gotta learn how to launch this thing. It's a real beyotch.
I got owned off the line by a stock standard Mazda 6.. It took me half the track to catch up with him - but when I caught him I blew past him going about 30-40km/h faster.
Sucks off the line. Or maybe it's me, I can't drive. Pretty depressing.. I also ate the worst hot dog I've ever had in my life. I'm sure I'll be suffering tomorrow.
Very hard to be as fast as you are normally on the street.
My funniest plex time was a 14.9@105 in my old car....missed 3rd and drove rest of track in 6th lol.*Disclaimer - Don't rely on me, seek your own professional advice. Audi R8 E-tron. 230kw 4500nm! (not a typo).
