this is actually a problem i've for awhile. Ive brought it to my tuning mechanic as well as VW in stock mode and VW has been useless saying it was a sparatic misfire. They have switched the coils around twice and still misfires from the same cylinder.
My mechanic has been the best of help changing the spark plugs and spraying the manifold with this engine cleaner but the fault still appears when under full throttle.
I did however get my boost gauge recently installed and what i found interesting was that on stage one i was peaking or spiking at 23-25psi which is too high for stage one after talking with other members.
I am GIAC btw, but i have spoken with someone with APR who has the same problem and someone in singapore also had the same issue and he had bluefin
i think the next step might be to replace the fuel injectors?
Paolo was it cylinder 3??
Did changing coilpack 3 to cylinder one and vice versa do anything in stock and tuned mode?

it only misfires with the program on, in stock it never comes on
don't think the coilpack is the issue thou since VW has switched 3with 4 the first time and again changing 3 with 1 the second time i came in to get it checked out.

yeah I heard that a lot of pirellis had coilpack failures when tuned (any tune)..
Guy might be able to chip in, as I know this affected a few aussie cars too..
just went to check with the dealer , everything is ok. will monitor the next few days to see if there anything wrong. try wot again and manual nth happen.
check with a few ppl, think its due to wrong fuel and also just flash ecu which take time to adapt.
i was told the wrong fuel could be an issue since vortex98 loses octane when shipped here or something, but i use mobil now and still get it so ruled that out. It definitely isn't the ecu adapting because like i said i've had this issue for a few months now.
When giving it thou i usually shift before redline to avoid misfiring but that isn't a long term solution...

will montior and see. at the moment nth wrong the car.
If you get this symptom on an APR flashed car, you don't have our new software.
If you get it on anyone else's tune, get them to fix it - It won't be too hard for them to work it out & the fault codes should lead them directly to the problem.
wow ok not sure if my post got deleted or if it didn't get through because i was at work but here i go again.
I have told the person i was talking with who has the same issue as me (and a few others) and has APR about how APR have fixed this issue. He disregarded this as an issue because he has been to his tuner a few times putting different APR remaps for his pirelli and still misfiring under heavy load. VW is now checking his ecu and say that its definitely engine internals and are going with a full engine rebuild/replacement!
I don't want to name who this person is for privacy issues on his part and i am not knocking APR, but that is what he is dealing with at the moment. My mechanic has sent the logs and faults to Lucas so hopefully we can see what the next plan of attack is

This one car you mention has a unique issue - very low compression in a single cylinder - totally different to what the other posters are mentioning. A simple compression leak down test will assist you in determining if it is a software or hardware issue.
That particular vehicle had the same problem with stock or modified software, most other people are only complaining of it with modified software.

just out of curiosity Guy, were you able to pinpoint exactly what was causing the misfires with this issue? also since the car still drives normally after the light flashes on the dash, would you say that it is still safe to drive? also, why is it that some cars come out fine with the tune and others not?
Yes, we know exactly what causes it & why it happens to some people not others, but it's information we had to work out ourselves (with APR). I'm not going to release that information sorry.
